~~~~~~~~TODAY: 25 March, 2009...HEALTH NEWS!
CNN) -- The small fruit has the color of a cranberry, the shape of an almond and tastes like a flavorless gummy.
The "miracle fruit" makes acidic foods, such as lemons and grapefruits, sweet and candy-like.
But after chewing the fruit and rubbing the pulp against the tongue, the berry, known by a promising name -- "miracle fruit" or Synsepalum dulcificum -- releases a sweetening potency that alters the taste buds.
For about 15 to 30 minutes, everything sour is sweet.
Lemons lose their zing and taste like candy. Oranges become sickeningly sweet. Hot sauce that usually burns the tongue tastes like honey barbecue sauce that scorches as it trickles down the throat.
Through word of mouth, these miracle fruits have inspired "taste tripping" parties, where foodies and curious eaters pay $10 to $35 to try the berries, which are native to West Africa.
About five months ago, a Miami, Florida, hospital began studying whether the fruit's sweetening effects can restore the appetite of http://topics.cnn.com/topics/Cancer/ - cancer patients whose chemotherapy treatments have left them with dulled taste buds.
"What happens in patients is the food tastes so metallic and bland, it becomes repulsive," said Dr. Mike Cusnir, a lead researcher on the project and oncologist at Mount Sinai Medical Center. "Most of the patients undergoing chemotherapy have weight loss. Then they cut further into their diet and then this furthers the weight loss. It causes malnutrition, decreased function of the body and electrolyte imbalance." http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/03/25/miracle.berries.weightloss/index.html#cnnSTCVideo - Watch a flavor tripping demonstration and the interview with Cusnir. »
Does it work with sour milk?
Well, it has made some cheeses taste sweeter... and sour milk with a little bit of acid thrown in to induce coagulation is basically what cheese is!
Definitely dead. A corpse found in China. Think it was an accident, Pa?
Yea - I'm certain of it.
Looks like the results of an accident that happened in 'Nail Gun School' where the kid with Parkinson's was inadvertently placed in a back-row...
Great argument for not sitting in the Front-Row.
Wonder if this nifty DeWalt model was used?
While reading the news a moment ago, I decided to follow an odd link at the bottom of the page...this deserves a spot SOMEWHERE; I simply could not figure where (besides anywhere other than our home...).
I decided to place this ad within this thread...and I *do* worry about youngsters reading our posts, sometimes. I could see Mama and Little Cathy reading the board, together and stumbling across this post..."...loooookie, Mommy!"
Then again, maybe they read the news and follow links, also.
Anyway - about THIS product:
Would you consider it (with apologies to MM00, since I know how much he dislikes the following word) 'Green'?
Maybe so...looks like *most* everyone's interests were taken into consideration ().
So I'll leave it to YOU to watch the videos at the bottom of this page.
Sometimes it can be a real b*tch just trying to become a 'Dad'; it appears that it has always required 'an agreement'; otherwise there will be the proverbial "wasted nut" (there's been more than one person I've thought of as such)...
It'll be amazing if I can find MissyDWolf.
She's out & about...took the day off.
Spending a few dollars, I imagine.
She went NUTS last night - I KNEW it was coming, just didn't know when.
Had me up and down half the night, then was all over me, early this morning.
I need a 'walker', about now...and some ibuprofen.
She needs some serious drugs.
Like I said...I expected this...thanks to our oldest daughter.
We're to be Grandparents in a few months.
Feels REALLY strange.
MissyDWolf is hopping around like a 10 year old who got every wish granted at XMAS.
I'm tired.
(I tried to convince daughter that naming the child, boy or girl, after me was acceptable...she laughed...)
Well Tizzer,
Actually, with all the current concern about the well-being, care, and guidance of Blanket Jackson (no matter how hard you try, you cannot avoid it)...'da wimmins already have been talking about renaming me.
Seems a toss-up between 'Doormat' and 'Wallet'. Maybe some combination of both.
Thanks Mad!...
I'm in trouble again.
Bad enough I suggested to JkyWolf a few baby names - the male & female 'ghetto versions' of my own first name, which has settled like spoiled milk...but then I REALLY blew it.\
(PaWolf) "Sweetie - it's really O.K., I tell ya! You're just gonna give birth to a midget! Ain't no problem! Just love 'em a little MORE (or save some, given its short, doncha know)"
I got the ever-lovin' crap smacked outta me, verbally and physically, for that...everyone seems pissed at me and I just don't know WHY! Even her husband isn't happy (nahh - he doesn't qualify for 'midget', 'cept "crainially")
The ancient city of MIRADOR has been FOUND - this is simply AMAZING.
This was initially reported a few weeks ago, but news keeps on breaking about this find - the 'Cradle of Mayan Civilization' - and a city as large as Los Angeles.
The link is 7 wonderful minutes long - the findings are certainly going to be stupefying.
How about FOUR for today?
1.) For the lovely CIH Women who simply adore their expensive Silk clothing, yet must always remember that when they wear it, they're covering themselves in worm-spit.
"Boa's loss is a bleak reminder that we must not allow this to happen to the other tribes of the Andaman islands," Survival director Stephen Corry said in the statement. Andaman and Nicobar Islands authorities put at least five tribes in their list of vulnerable indigenous communities.
According to Corry's group, the surviving Great Andamanese depend largely on the Indian government for food and shelter and abuse of alcohol is rife.
(Pa's Perspective:
THIS LOST CULTURE WAS - get ready - ready? 65,000 YEARS OLD! THAT IS THIRTEEN TIMES OLDER THAN THE *ESTIMATED AGE* OF THE GREAT SPHINX, IN EGYPT!
IN FACT, THE *OLDEST KNOWN* ORGANIZED CULTURE WAS ONLY 5000 YEARS OLDER!
'Why, GEE, THANKS, INDIA! Ya friggin' bums kept 'em fed, drunk, and away from public view! Certainly we need not have learned anything, now did we?!
NOW- Seriously - 'Beyond the Sarcasm' (TO EVERYONE): What would YOU like to learn?!!! How can we learn? How can we preserve?
WE cannot let the 'roots of civilization' disappear before our very eyes.
DWolf ('AfgyBoy') is getting ready for some R&R - and he is planning on grabbing a new car, while he is home (I get to 'dry-store' it). He has really negotiated a great deal on a new, full-blown (and then some) 5.0 Mustang GT.
I tried to talk some sense into him (no chance); if he wants to spend that kind of money, then why not 'do it once/do it right'?
I swear - kids NEVER learn!
I'm ready to 'test-drive' this one (where I was pushing him, but he said he didn't like the finance options).
From the article:
Mathis and another student unsuccessfully challenged the use of an English proficiency test as a requirement for graduation. In 1992, when the case went to trial, the lawsuit gained national attention. Mathis said then his failure to pass the test "made me feel stupid." The requirement was eventually dropped in 2007, and Mathis applied to get his degree the next year, after his election.
I guess, when one can't fulfill the requirements...change the requirements!
There is plenty with which to trash the man...the question is...why and how did he get to where he is? What are his 'redeeeming qualities'? He has some - and apparently others believe as much; enough so that he manages to inspire and direct.
Probably the most important question is---is he improving academics in Detroit? Will he lower the dropout rate? Will test scores rise, or will he find some creative ways (such as his own method of simply lowering the standards) to have the kids graduate and run along?
