Hurricane Irma is a Category 5 and is poised to hit Florida. The last Category 5 Hurricane to hit Florida was Hurricane Andrew in 1992! I remember Hurricane Andrew and that Hurricane was some real scary shait! People in Homestead had their roofs collapsed INTO their homes and I remember a crying man on the news saying,"We have no food. We have no water," after the Hurricane left him stranded(I think he said something like "My family and I were playing happily on the beach just yesterday, not knowing how serious the evacuation orders were, or how serious Andrew would be, and now the Hurricane has devastated us."

I remember school being postponed for 2 weeks(School was actually going to start roughly around the time Hurricane Andrew hit Florida) and it took a very long time to rebuild the damage that Hurricane Andrew caused. I remember our neighborhood looked like TRASH after Hurricane Andrew was done raping us and my father's friend named Victoria saying,"Oh my God," in a troubled and shocked tone.

I still have flashbacks of that horrible Hurricane Andrew and at least one Weather source has said that Hurricane Irma is predicted to be even WORSE than Hurricane Andrew. Hurricane Irma has already killed 10 people. So incredibly sad. I am worried about the imminent danger of Category 5 Hurricane Irma and the landfall of Florida and possibly Georgia and North and South Carolina! On a side note, Meteorologists are already looking at Hurricane Jose and Hurricane/Tropical Storm Katia! They are scheduled to come after Irma! We can't catch a break!

I'm praying for everyone in the path of Hurricane Irma. the latest forcast shows landfall over the everglades, if this holds good it will weaken considerably as it heads north. I should expect catigory one or two winds (Similar to last year's Matthew). Just take care of preparing for this storm (Fill all gas tanks (IF you can find a gas station that still has gas) stock up on non-perishable foods, shore up your windows if possible and prepare to go to a shelter if necessary. May God be with you all.

I tried to talk him into heading to Stark via 301 (probably clearer than the interstates) and then due north, but he isn't hearing any of it right now. I even offered to fly him out to The Den, or up here to The Estate In The Swamp, but noooooooooo........

Irma's projected track keeps on shifting further and further to the west, which seems like it would be a good thing for us folks over here in Orlando, but it's not as good as it might seem.

The reason for that is because the worst part of a hurricane to be in is the northeast quadrant. That is where the strongest and most damaging winds are. So if you are to the right side of a hurricane or if it is on your left, you are going to get a harder hit.

Still hoping that it weakens a lot by the time it gets up this far.

Better yet, that it veers offshore well before it gets anywhere near here.

WinkThanks, aka.

Just spoke with my brother...he is still in Tampa, but on higher ground in very solid place.
To me, this seems like a very slow moving storm. I don't know if that says good or bad things, but I know it isn't losing much punch.

Again, my very best wishes for all to pull through this. Take this opportunity to talk with family - you never know when it may be your final opportunity and this is a darned good time to make peace.

I think the rule states that if you choose to DO THAT, then all your spermmistakes created today must be baptized God-fearing Christians and their names all are to rhyme with 'Irma'.
For example, if it has 'twinsies', the names could be 'Germa(than)' and 'Sperma(than)'.

Pool's overflowed (yay tile grout job!)
Herded 3 cats into 3 different garages for the night (one neighbor doesn't know... LOL )
Freezers are closed, AC is turned down to cool the house.
Probably not going to sleep tonight.  Expecting it to get rough in the AM...

Cheers!

The storm is now a cat 2 and it's still down by Ft. Myers.

By the time it gets to Tampa it's projected to be a cat 1.

If that's so, here in Orlando we should only get tropical storm level winds.

That's why I'm hoping it won't be as bad as they're saying it will.

Of course, it's the tornados we have to worry about in the NE quadrant of the storm.

Well, I survived Irma and so did my house. Lots of small tree limbs down but didn't see any large trees uprooted. I have no power though. I'm parked in front of a hospital a couple of miles from home using their WiFi signal. Think I'll go inside and try to scare up a cup of coffee if I can.

Guess I'll be incommunicado for awhile. Don't know when they'll get the juice flowing again in my hood.

Till then, keep on h8'n them ding-danged, gol-darned commercials!!!!

Hey, I just thought of something.... with the power out, I won't have to see any of them!!!

I guess there are benefits to getting slammed by a major hurricane after all!

ConfusedYou selfish little bastard!
YOU weren't using it and right now there are a LOT of people who COULD use it. Maybe someone is - if our tax dollars bought your generator, I sure hope it is helping a family in need.
You should thank the big guy above for how good you have life...you go on vacations and have generators, you ride scooters all over...and you don't even work.

I'm so happy that you guys in Irma's path survived with very little damage.

PaWolf does have a point, regulus.  Did you even really have a generator?  Like not being able to take pics or video of the Total Solar Eclipse you kept banging on about (even in your signature) and then nothing?  Glad you're out of harm's way though.

Saw the looting.  Business as usual for some people.  Glad they got videotaped and arrested though.

Looking forward to Jimbo being back online.  In the meantime, enjoy the coffee and silence!

Unfortunately, my internet connection didn't.

Don't know if it's my router or if AT&T still has outages.

I'm here at my local Winn Dixie using their wifi...

Tried to contact AT&T customer service via my Magic Jack app on my tablet but I didn't even get a ring tone in the other end when the call connected.

Who knows.

I'll probably be offline for awhile.

Hello everyone.

I am still amongst the living and doing ok. Power was restored Tuesday morning but still no internet.

I come to this hospital every morning to take care of things I need to do online.

Gonna hang out awhile longer today and maybe do some forum chatting, but first I have to contact AT&T Customer (ahem) "Service" (yeah, right) and hopefully get a better idea of when I might be back online.

The guy I text chatted with yesterday told me it would be up by today.

I'm back after 4 days without power (I hate 'camping'...)
Lost 1 shingle (easily replaced) and 2 small banana trees.  Not much yard cleanup compared to the neighbors.  Tossed a lot of stuff from the fridge.  Most of the stuff in the freezers seems like it made it (the ice cream didn't, but it was still good melted, even used it for cereal after the milk went bad.)
The only sad news is that a neighbor's cat took shelter 30 feet up inside a hollow tree & still hasn't come down (might be because of too much noise), but I threw up a screen-covered 'ladder' that reaches to an opening we could see it in, so it's all up to the cat now...
Nice to see everybody else made it, too... ;-)

Sorry,dude.

Got busy dealing with those morons at at&t then, I had to make a call re: my mom's affairs. Had to wait for this young black gal to finish her business on the public guest phone, then her and I got to talking for about 30 minutes.

Poor gal was going through problems with her dad there in the hospital and she lost a chance at a call center job, behind on her rent etc, etc. She was looking for some kind of hardship assistance so I suggested she contact her local govt representatives, starting with her city council person, then going up through county commissioner, state legislature representative and finally her congressman.

I figure one of those people can set her in the right direction.

For a vote....

Anyway, by the time I was done, I was starving for some lunch so I headed to Subway.

I still don't have internet service though. I'm sitting here in my car parked on the relatively cool, shady side of my local Wawa, using their WiFi. Just had a ham, egg & cheese croissant, some Combos cheese pretzels (they didn't have any hash browns, dammit) and a small coffee.

Going to head back to the hospital now and call at&t tech (no) support to report what looks like the cause of my outage. Their junction box that's mounted to the utility pole in front of my house, was beaten up pretty badly by the storm. The lid is partially open which exposed the innards to the rain and there are some wires hanging out.

Maybe I can light a fire under someone's ass and get it repaired!!!

Wish me luck!!!!

I figure one of those people can set her in the right direction.

You mean you didn't identify yourself as a 'representative of the Oscar Meyer Foundation for Women' and offer her 'Day Pay' work, similar to that of Labor Ready? Or was she not cute?
(I'm sorry - it's hot and humid in The Swamp' and even with NO DISASTER, my day has been rife with pleas from the needy and, at 1:12 PM, my mind is already bending)

Good luck Jimbo!  Thanks for keeping us informed.  You have had to deal with so much all at once.  Sending positive thoughts and strength through prayers your way.

Well, here I am, back at Wawa again. It's a relatively comfortable evening thanks in part to hurricane Jose's rotation pulling the dry air down from the mid Atlantic states, making it feel almost fall-like.

Got myself a cup of decaf, sitting outside enjoying the coffee and the evening breeze, doing a little catch up.

The view from where I'm sitting. If you look closely, you can see a utility truck in the background, fixing a power line or something.

Still no wifi, but I don't feel so bad after seeing a report on the evening news about everyone else who's experiencing the same thing. Most of the major providers are scrambling to get their customers back online.

A lot of businesses are suffering too.

Another day another Wawa breakfast and public wifi.

Sitting in my car sweating in the humidity.

When will things get back to nermal???

Excuse me, I meant nerbal.

Think I'll head over to the hospital where I can sit in the a/c and use their wifi to check my email etc.

Don't like doing that on public wifi, but if given the choice between a convenience store and a hospital lobby, I'll take the hospital.

Might be back in awhile, might not.

Have a nice day everyone.

This will be my last post until October 3. My hard drive is failing, and will be October 3 (when my disability comes in) before I can afford a new computer. In the meantime may God Bless all of you. For those of you who never experienced a hurricane before welcome to the Hurricane Club, as for me this was the fifth hurricane I've been through (The previous storms were Charley, Frances and Jean in 2004, and Matthew last year, which means I'm a
