Does this company even have (brick and mortar) stores? I can look it up.

If not!  Is the customer supposed to measure, design and install a brand new kitchen?

There are some skills envolved here! This company just pisses me off!

I'm an IKEA fan and their stores are fun.
Some IKEA stores up near The Den - well, more toward Toronto.
I know I have seen one in New Jersey, near The Lincoln Tunnel...and a few more, but I don't recall where...

We lose more kids than that to Chronic Atypical Neutrophilic Dermatosis with Lipodystrophy and Elevated Temperature Syndrome.  (Yeah, I had to look that one up too.)

Maybe simpler:  We lose more kids than that to PokeMon Go.

^ Oh, sorry about that:  IKEA.
I was mostly referring to the image:  US Consumer Product Safety Commission.  Thumbs Down
It's not a spoof.  IKEA actually dedicates a lot of real estate on their web site to this "issue".

If IKEA wants to sell me furniture, they need a better sales pitch than "Hey, you can bolt it down so it doesn't kill your children."   Really?

If that's such a big problem (which statistically, it is not), then why not make a dresser that won't tip over in the first place?

Classic example of a "solution" in search of a problem. Thumbs Down

^^^Actually, I applaud IKEA for taking a stance - it is easy for those with responsibility to crap on others without proper justification, and the US Government is full of glorified burger flippers who actually were allowed to reproduce. Idiots.
IKEA's furniture goes through 'quality assurance' testing as much as anyone else's, so I've been lead to believe.

Well, the quote doesn't mention whether or not any IKEA furniture is implicated in any of the child deaths.  Furthermore, I'm inclined to believe that of the entire universe of furniture still in-service, from all manufacturers since the dawn of time, the percentage attributable to IKEA is exceedingly tiny.  Therefore, absent other factors (and frankly, hard to envision what those could even be!), the inescapable conclusion is that IKEA's claim to safer furniture (if indeed it even is safer?) will actually save zero lives, let alone the lives of children.

The whole thing is utter nonsense.
I'll go one better:  The claim is downright preposterous.

^....o.k....now, who brought up all this baby-killing-with-furniture crap again, anyway? I recall discussing store locations and perceived quality issues (lightly, aaaaand, with an old commercial), but now we're into serious claims? If we're going there, then heck - let's talk about stupid parents, say like the Dad who dropped his baby into the open dishwasher silverware tray, which had knives pointing up? Yea, the baby was truly forked.

Kids getting hurt with furniture, or anything else around the house?
'Parental Stupidity'
Ever hear of it?
People forget how to look in the mirror.

^ Well, I guess IKEA brought up the subject, as idiotic as the claim may be.

That said, maybe it does raise a good question.  (I use that term very loosely here on CIH!)

Which kills more children:
A)  Idiotic parents who drop their kids onto upturned knives in the open dishwasher, or
B)  Non-IKEA manufactured furniture

Hummm....   Question

The fact that the question is even asked tells one all they need to know about the answers, and by extention, IKEA's preposterous (and unproven) basis for their supposed product improvement.

The main reason for my post was that I don't trust IKEA.

Cheap ass furniture and the thought that they expect the normal, everyday couple are able to measure and design their own kitchen space is ludicrous.

Ha!  I have a hard on for stupidity.
I'm with Ron on this one.  You just can't trust a company the pulls this crap.

IF (and "if" is an enormous assuption here), there truly is anything special about IKEA furniture, I can guarantee you it isn't that it saves more childrens' lives.

It's just too damn bad that Roe v. Wade doesn't cover commericals like this.

Take comfort in the fact that future generations will never see IKEA appear in the antique furniture segments of Antiques Roadshow...  LOL

PaW's wisdom is usually pretty solid, I'm surprised at these comments.

I delivered kitchen and bath cabinets to builders. My boss had me measuring while I was at some of the building sites.
I also worked with a professional trim carpenter. Even in new construction things aren't always plumb and level.

IKEA Kitchen Cabinets: Pros, Cons
& Real Life Owner Reviews

A beautiful, functional, new kitchen is a wonderful thing. The act of renovating a kitchen, maybe not so much. It's a job that causes even the calmest heads to get a little stressed over the decisions that need to be made. To help ease the strain for all the brave planners, I gathered some of our best real-life info on a item that most every renovator considers due to their reputation, availability and price: IKEA kitchen cabinets. Here's the scoop, straight from our smart and savvy readers...

The reviews were mostly positive.

My partner used to work as a kitchen designer for a super high-end German cabinet company, and we bought Ikea cabinets for our kitchen remodel. The boxes are built exactly the same way as the $100,000 kitchens he used to work with, and they use the same brand hinges and drawer slides!

We put them together and installed them ourselves. The Euro cabinet system is SO MUCH EASIER to install than American style cabinets. The wall cabinets all hang on a rail. You install the rail by screwing it into studs and making sure it is level. Then each cabinet that hangs on it is automatically level - genius. The base cabinets come with legs that have twist-to-level feet, so there's no shimming involved.

We have 14 cabinets total - I put them together by myself in 1 day while my partner was demo-ing the old cabinets, then we installed them together the next day. Honestly, a new kitchen in a weekend.

They have been in for 3 1/2 years, and we haven't run into a single issue. The hardware is still soft-close, and the cabinets and doors/drawer fronts are holding up great. We used dark wood veneer slab fronts on the base cabinets, and white lacquered MDF slab fronts on the uppers (I can't remember the name of either).

I honestly can't recommend them highly enough. - sillyputty

I have done 2 remodels both with Ikea cabinetry. Both turned out very well, the kitchen in particular was awesome. My partner put together all the units and did the levelling. We had the ikea people put in the bench top. All up the quality was 10/10 and with the money saved we splashed out on modern appliances. I should add, all the cabinetry is pull out so there is no awkward reaching. The cabinets were the best ikea ones available, solid wood fronts.. - Johanna in Perth

I see IKEA products as simple & functional, with a light touch of style.

I think our buddy Anduril probably had to 'educate & enlighten' some traveling foreign IKEA gypsy salesmen who tried to sell him a particleboard product made with pressurized sawdust/glue/cardboard, covered in pleather.

Yes!!
And they gypsies were using child labor.
No doubt the same children "saved" by the IKEA furniture in the first place.  Confused
