WTF is with 'The Addiction Network'?

At 55 seconds in...where did they get poor little Tommy Trailertrash and is it the intention of 'The Addiction Network' to imply 'No Insurance, No Help'?

Cry"I wish my family had insurance. I could have had the best help available."

Forget it, Spineless Tommy Whiner - now go rob someone...

WOW! They are really taking a beating on their Facebook page for that bit at the end about the insurance.

And does anyone else notice the phone number?  I thought 555 was only used in the movies.

Poor little Tommy.... Since his insurance didn't cover the addiction network, he went out and overdosed... Isn't millionaire insurance wonderful? With that, Tommy could have gone to the Malibu treatment centers....

He couldve gone to Passages Malibu, like Lindsey Lohan, that plays commercials during the day time. If only he had insurance & not a weak and addictive personality.

This is a much cheaper treatment. I just can't picture someone dealing with a drinking or drug issue..fighting the withdrawal - the vomiting, sweating, shaking, trouble focusing on anything -  Deciding to take a walk to the park to read a damn book.

Pretty sad that they won't help you out with your addiction if you don't have insurance. If Heroin addict Tommy ends up dead of a Heroin overdose after he was turned down at Addiction Network because he had no insurance, it should eat their souls and way heavily on their conscience. There should be places that will help you overcome your addiction for free.

So, counselors should work free of charge, and in facilities that charge no rent to the businesses inside?  And what about the electricity, computers etc. in the building?  Should the electric company and internet provider give the business free lights and internet?  What about insurance for the business?  Should Hartford provide that at no cost?

Nothing's free.  Someone has to pay for it.

I pay the Government my taxes and they are supposed to use that taxes money so that they can fund free Rehab for drug addicts to get off of the drug(s) that are making their families cry in agonized sorrow seeing their loved one statmy out all night at drug bender parties and is slowly putting their loved one into an early drug overdosed grave!

"If my family only had insurance"
            W H A T ?!?!?.....
       This cracks me up

First of all, how old is he???
I'm guessing in his early 20's,so why would his "family" be carrying him on their insurance???
And when the commercial first came out he wasn't on it. Its like they added him.        Which I've noticed, sometimes he's on it and sometimes he's not.
** so is the poor guy still out there getting high somewhere using the money they paid him for being in the tv ad? Lol   Or bc of "no insurance" he couldn't get the best help available, so he just SETTLED for the "Addiction Network"??
      So CONFUSING!!! Lol!!!

WinkHi  and Welcome Aboard!

I hope I can clear a few things.
First, most good insurance plans will allow one to cover family members until they are 26, so that kid LOOKS like he could have been covered -the questions really are:
1.) If pre-ObamaCare, did 'his parents' even have insurance?
2.) Did his parents love him enough?
When the commercial originally came out, he was the last thing on the full-length version, but off of all shorter versions.
"WHY, PaW, whyyyy would the Addiction Network discount that poor child?!!", you might ask.
'The Baby Jeezus will not approve' would be a fair assumption, but then that poor kid looks like the whiney trailer park trash kid from grade school who used to get beat up by girls. And then, those ears!

I hate how they have the guy at the end saying "I wish my family had insurance.  I could've gotten the best help available" too.  It makes it seem like he doesn't have control over his own destiny and insurance is something that is only attainable by old money.  He should be saying I wish I had insurance or I wish my parents kept me on their insurance or I wish I purchased my own insurance or I need to buy insurance so I can get the best help available.

Insurance is now required by law, even if you don't like it.  He could have purchased his own insurance through an insurance marketplace if he can't get it through work or doesn't have a job.  Even without any tax credit, I'm sure it's a lot cheaper than the cost of rehab.  I get they're trying to keep away all the calls from uninsured people because they probably don't have any free services in their network, and by the time these callers are looking for help they're probably broke, but don't make it seem like people are helpless and can't take 15 minutes or even an hour to sign up for insurance on the phone, at the library, at a friend's house.

It drives me crazy...he can take steps to fix his own problems.  He's not completely helpless.  And he's not a lost cause because his family doesn't have insurance.  If he can buy drugs, he can spend $200-400 on insurance for an entire month.

And I think he looks like he's over 26, so he needs to get his own insurance, if that's the case.

^^^Wink*I* suspect you may be a little misinformed, or have no idea of what it is like to be a, or deal with a member who is an addict.
Secondly, maybe you know how penniless people pay for ObummerCare?

And 'EarBoy'? Damn lil'skinhead! Can't tell 'em apart in the daylight! If I recall correctly, the original commercial had him wearing an orange t-shirt, which made him sound and look like a penis topped off with white (flesh-toned) 'Mickey Mouse' ears on his head.

Yeah right, some kid with bong resin stained teeth that can't decide wether to look through his glasses or above them (this guy makes Doogie Houser look old) knows all about addiction. Then they follow up with the guy that looks like he eats paint chips every morning like they come out of a cereal box, throws me a hint to get health insurance, or end up like him.

Grrrrrr... this entire ad is so annoying! And these people are paid actors pretending to be drug or alcohol addicts who need help, not legit addicts telling their real story. That alone is insulting! They care so much about the addicted folks yet tey cant even be bothered to pay a few to showcase themselves in an ad, and talk about how much this place helped them? Maybe its because the place is not actually doing its job? I do not know. I do know as a former drug addict, who is now no longer, that this is unrealistic, insulting way of portraying what the place does and who it actually helps if anyone. It is waaay too obvious these folks are script or cue card reading, as well. An actual recovered addict or alcoholic would show some genuine emotion if the place helped turn lives around! Just NO

What ever happend to all the Einsteins in the mentos commercials that aired about 20 years ago. Anybody remember those, or has feeble mind started playing tricks on me?
The girl breaks a heel off of one of her shoes. Bummed out, she pops a mentos. And like a sceen from "Flowers for Algeron",the chicks IQ instantly skyrockets. Yep, so she decides shes gonna break the other heel off so atleast she wont be walking like Festus.
So here she is, strolling down the street with her toes pointing directly straight up.
So bad, it was funny.
But stupid sells. It makes the veiwer feel more superior, i guess.

I've been seeing this 800 number commercial constantly lately.
"You need to call the Addiction Network NOW!!!!!"
I hate the way he harshly yells at viewers...not everyone is addicted to drugs!
The cheap value of this commercial screams scam. Much like all of those "tax relief" and "debt relief" commercials.

The 800-555-1234 is a placeholder number. It was not aired. Of course, when aired there's a genuine 800 or 888 number to call.

-------------
Back after a long absence...still hating those commercials. Go away Limu Emu and Doug!

I agree with every last member's opinion about all of the negative things about this commercial, however I was on other sites that critisized this same commercial and I'm amazed that not one member anywhere commented on the girl who states "It was Oxyies for me" ....  I absolutely can't understand if she is African American, Arab, American Indian, or simply has the darkest spray tan I've ever seen. It's her eyes and lip line edges that look so unnatural compared to her dark color ... almost as if her eye and lip edges were tightly and perfectly masked off so evenly as to make those parts 'pop through' her evenly dark skin ....  Or I'm simply the stupidest member in here , lol ! .... can someone please give an opinion ?

^  I went back to the first page of this thread to see what you were talking about.  But it seems the video's been hacked or something.  There's someone interrupting the video talking about "counter-strike addiction".

But I see the chick you're talking about.  Yeah, what the hell is with her skin?  It's almost like she's in blackface.  Reminds me of when Grace Slick appeared on the Smothers Brothers Show in blackface.

I'm glad you agree, I've replayed this commercial so many times just to stare at her coloring ... you helped me explain it and hit the nail right on the head with your description of 'blackface' ... I knew it looked familier but couldn't remember that term .. yeh, she's like she's doing an AL Jolsen satire ... I really think she had a really over zealous spray tan with some type of eye and lip covering masking devices ....

OMG Thor ! I went to see that Grace slick video .... that is a perfect copy of what I mean ! never had a response so perfectly respond to my exact puzzlement !  Never saw any 2 girls look like that ..it's beautiful but 'unreal' in a sense .... that Slick was indeed in beautiful blackface takes away THAT part of the mystery ... but what is going on with the Oxy girl is beyond me .... Many thanks Thor !!!Thumbs Up

Or maybe she's a New Jersey "Angela" all prepped to meet her Guido on the Seaside boardwalk.

Yeah, i see what you're saying. I never noticed that till you mentioned it.i got a theory. I think she lives in a headshop and she video recorded this under a black Light. That, or she fell asleep in a tanning bed. Who knows. After all, its the rehab peeps that made the ad.

The Black Light theory makes good sense as it would explain the eyes and the lips 'popping' out so radically from the face and the almost 'action figure' toy doll evenness of the tan on the whole.

I cannot say I blame them on that! That comment can be quite inflammatory comment.

I noticed the 555 prefix also, "Hello Sarah, this is Andy Taylor, connect me to Barney Fife."

Yea, as far as I'm concerned, those Chipotle addicts can smoke my wrinkled ol'pepper before I'll help 'em, doncha know!

This is honestly the best part of this commercial. It's the perfect icing on the "I'm a suburban junkie feeling sorry for myself" cake to end it.

Hazelden? Never heard of it. But Jurupa Valley is a new city,an incorporated section of Riverside county, mainly consisting of what was "Rubidoux". Actually, I prefer keeping it unincorporated. I get along better with the sheriffs dept more than local authorities.

"Getting along" with the police??  Can't say I've ever had a relationship with law enforcement anywhere I've lived.

WinkYea...there IS a 'new' one - I've seen it once or twice. I know it is new because Pax actually appears older (pretty much the effect of 'falling off the wagon' every time he got paid).

UPDATE: *I* must be getting tired - this was the second time I replied to the same post saying the same thing.
That Pax person seems to be a complete arsehole! When you are an addict, you are ALWAYS AN ADDICT! Addiction doesn't go away simply because you're at a posh rehab centre, and what's with the hideous blouse you're wearing, mate?

Thanks Jimmy - you pointed out the MAIN message anyone must first understand and with which to agree, should they desire to improve (which is really the most anyone can wish for).

And Pax Prentiss? LOLDon't  get me started....
