That ASPCA commercial is disturbing(the one with the dog looking fearfully at the gun next to his head. In the commercial, a voiceover basically says "Give money to the ASPCA or we might as well pull the trigger." What a disturbing and creepy commercial!

That's not any SPCA commercial. That was the cover of a humor magazine back in the 70s.

And because you're you, I'll mention that the dog was not going to be killed.

Yeah. Once or twice or maybe 300 times.
Still not sure how he died. Suicide or accident? As one of the writers put it "He accidentally fell while looking for a place to jump".

Yeah. What I thought was the universally famous "If you don't buy this magazine we will kill this dog" National Lampoon cover. I understand the likelihood of one person not getting the memo but the odds of it being the same person every time must be astronomical!

^Have to watch the cause of the separation. Sometimes it can be you are looking right straight-up at an eco dead zone, if it is anoxic water, such as the Black Sea (at depth). This body of water is another great example because, at greater depth is totally different. It is much heavier as it lacks oxygen and thus, less likey to support life of any sort. Stagnation due to lack of circulation over great periods of time would be the 'causer'.
There is always a 'silver lining', doncha know...
What these segregated, deadly waters often do is to perfectly preserve anything trapped in them. The Black Sea is a good example, here.

Creepy - glad that fad came to an end. I've heard of the practice but actually seeing the pictures is just morbid.
The HBO (?) series "The Knick" did an episode where they photographed a dead child. I haven't followed this year's series so I have a lot to catch up on, but that was an interesting show.

'Sharing Is Caring!", doncha know
I've had that vivid nightmare and only snatched the pic because I recognized it the moment I saw it. Go back and look at 'The Swing' - one I have had multiple times (but not in many years) and woke up in cold sweats.
And, just for the 'icing on the cake'? Imagine these two as just the beginning of what is waiting for us - the 'Welcoming Party' - on 'the other side'.
At least the simple thought of such should level out those nightmares with new waking-hour concerns...or will we now more often find you for a glass of wine after 'Confession'?

I noticed that the faces look a lot like the hideous baby mask worn by Michael Palin at the end of the movie "Brazil".
If you look down near the neckline in Pa's pic, you can see where the pale white abruptly ends as if it were the edge of a mask.
And since these kinds of masks are available nowadays...
I'm wondering if that pic wasn't produced recently and made to look very old and creepy.
Maybe?

cold snap last night...muscles in neck, sinus, ears...nothing any of my little 'tasty recipes that induce diarrhea for the purpose of removing impurities' can handle...tonight is a lip-smacking mustard-based red-skin potato salad combined with a zesty & fresh salsa...I'm thinking of dressing this up with some olive oil and soy sauce.
It is amazingly satisfying and easy on the stomach, but what's really neat is you can actually feel it going through your intestines right before the gas buildup and the 'bubbling burblesh*tz' kick in. That on my innards got scrubbed & wiped and became flushed outards, but it didn't do a darned thing for my ear, nose, and throat. WARNING: If YOU do this, have a vacant toilet close by. And Charmin.

I think you might have her confused with someone else.
The young French woman in that post WWII pic was not about to die. She just had her head shaved because it was suspected that she went to bed with Nazi soldiers.

From Wikipedia: Irma Ida Ilse Grese was a female SS guard at the Nazi concentration camps of Ravensbrück and Auschwitz, and served as warden of the women's section of Bergen-Belsen.
Ilsa is/was a very common German girls' name.
