AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I hate hate hate this commercial!!!  It's always a race to change the channel before that stupid kid flings the coffee cup full of pencils at the guy's car.

1) What bank has a "Take Your Kids to Work Day???" I mean seriously. Are they really going to have a dozen kids running around behind the counters, getting into the vaults, the cash drawers, the money, the security equipment, and under counters where they will no doubt press the alarm buttons??? It's completely ridiculous!!!

2) Pneumatic tube systems don't work that way!!!! There has to be a seal for the vaccum to work!!!!  It's not like some magical device that launches anything put into it at the car.  And if it was, wouldn't it launch the pneumatic tubes at the car??? Please!!!! So stupid!!

3) The idiot in the car!!! When something comes shooting out of the bank machine, I LEAVE!!!  I don't just sit there cowering behind my door and call my insurance company!!!!  If this is the kind of customer that Nationwide likes, then they aren't the company for me.  The rates would be AWFUL!!

4) Even if I had Nationwide, it's not exactly like the incident was my fault.  I wouldn't call my insurance company.  I would run into the bank, scream at the manager, spank the kid, and sue the bank and the parent.  But of course there wouldn't be a need for a lawsuit. The bank would no doubt immediately apologize and pay for the damages. Insurance is not required for this incident.  I mean, it would be a totally open and shut case since the entire thing would be on camera.

Do commercials really have to be so stupid?  And to make matters worse, this video is on YouTube and people are commenting that they LIKE it??????????? What is wrong with this country!!!!!????

I've seen "Take your kids to Work Day" in MANY, MANY banks, for as long as I can remember.

Some actually do - and have FOR A LOOOOOOOOONG time...take a good look at the containers going in - hard rubber ends making them tight in the tube.

If it were me I wouldn't just sit there, I'd hit the gas instead.

Dumb ad, it isn't funny and it's still completely unrealistic not matter how much they changed it. (it used to be slightly different)

I'm a bit confused.  You said "Some actually do"  Some do what?  Some tubes work that way? Or some launch tubes at cars?
I read in the YouTube comments that a bank's machine did launch tubes at a car before.  But there is absolutely no possible way that a pneumatic tube system could pick up a coffee cup, 5 rolls of quarters, a sandwich, a nameplate, and a freaking trumpet.  I used to work for a bank Architect, and I did a lot of research about those systems.  There has to be a seal, as you indicated.  The tube makes a seal, but there is no seal for the coffee cup and a sandwich.

In the end really all of this is moot because the entire premise is ridiculous.  If this happened to anyone for real, having any kind of insurance wouldn't make any difference.  They would go into the bank and complain.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome.

Although - if they could suck up a sandwich or a mug of pencils - an unsupervised boy would try that.

[EDIT]

I meant "if a pneumatic tube at a bank could suck up a sandwich..." (etc.)

Hate to say it but the commercial is actually pretty funny...yeah the kid is a little sh*t, which makes it easier to find annoying. Still, the premise is pretty funny. Cmon, things flying through the air being destroyed...that's pretty much always a good thing, right?

When I've seen 'kids at work', they are generally very well behaved.
They also spend a very limited amount of time in the workplace.
Rarely will you find them 'on the front lines' where organization meets customer (let's say for example, the 'Teller Line'). More often, they are seen in back-office operations such as computer rooms, 'proof and transit' departments, or active places with devices that move and make noise.
Good organizations provide their employees a bit of leeway to ensure the children retain as much a positive impact as possible from their experience, for obvious reason.

Besides, aren't the children generally older?  Maybe I'm wrong but, I thought they usually write a report or give a speech to their class on what their parents career is and what they learned.  This boy seems a bit young.

ALL ages; 'the wonders of the workplace' have a way of creating lasting impressions - so the really young ones will often get an active, short dose. As they get a bit older, they'll see more - hopefully generating interest and questions. Some of us will set up simple 'tours' that cross functional boundaries, yet, overall, are related. One can learn to follow a 'business transaction', from start to finish - especially if we can determine we have an age group that can comprehend without losing interest (the largest challenge of all). For some of the older ones, we've set up lunches to 'finish the day'. We spend some leisure time with them while letting them ask just about anything, telling us just about anything - measure the initial effect of their day with us. We get suggestions, too - sometimes, as long as we open our ears, they will open our eyes.

I bet they do have speeches they give, reports they present.
I bet some of them are priceless.
I think we should be required to go hear them.

IIRC, it started as "Take Your Daughter To Work Day", but someone decided it discriminated against boys, so it was changed.

On the topic of the commercial, if that was my kid, not only would he not be able to sit down for a month, but he would've forfeited his allowance for the rest of his childhood!

I just saw that commercial for the first time about a half hour ago on MTV; now I have another commercial to add to my increasingly long "commercials that make me want to mute/change the channel" list.

Of all the Nationwide commercials I've seen, this sucks @$$!!! If I saw that kid running rampant in the banks I visit (usually with my dad), snatching everything- and I do mean EVERYTHING- to total someone's car, I'd take him and beat the DEVIL outta him!

"Take Your Kids to Work Day"? Maybe "Take Your Kids to SHIRK Day" is more like it!
