There is a new commercial for Buick featuring the 1955 recording of Screaming Jay Hawkins singing the song "I put a spell on you".
Uh, that spell ain't working on me. I hate the sound of that song. It sounds sleazy, and doesn't inspire me to hop in my car and cruise to my local Buick center to check out their latest cars.
Who are they trying to attract with these ads?
That song sounds like it belongs in a sleazy bar, maybe they're trying to get the barflies to buy their cars~

That song starts out a mixed CD that's in my car right now...but by the Alan Price Set, not Screamin' Jay Hawkins.  I'm trying to figure out if that's Eric Burdon on the vocals 'cuz it sure sounds like him.

Haven't seen the commercial you're talking about, though.

Buicks are absolutely fantastic cars - love 'em.
Sreaming Jay Hawkins? "Black Music for White People" was an interesting album...
An 'acquired taste' - say, like R. Crumb.

Using Hawkin's music in a commercial? Doesn't quite fit.

I just read that Screamin' Jay had 75 kids.  LOL

o.k...you guys made me dig up some old poop that Hawkins recorded - and I slapped it in the 'listening' thread.
~~~
Now...back to the commercial; visually, I like it.
