Indeed.
Let's make it 'strike 2' - I just got hit with a valiant attempt at 'Identity Theft' again, today. Luckily, I have 'watchdogs' all over my accounts and the greedy get caught FAST.
'Watchdogs' Paw?
First - YOU are your best 'watchdog' - change your card PINs on a regular basis - say, monthly? I change mine weekly - no joke. I'm sort of 'in the biz'.
Yea - you can have any bank's fraud alert folks monitor activity along with you, should you desire.
Most of you know for almost the last 20 years I refused to keep checking accounts or any form of credit cards because of my previous 'Identity Theft' experience, but now being totally under my own control, I really had to go back and grab a card for travel and a place to stuff cash...and it only took 2 years to get hit.
$6000
First mistake - maybe just a little too much 'greed', my idiot!  So I get a personal call from the Philippines (one of my banking call centers) and a nice fraud investigator questioning me right away.
The money never left my account.
I'm so happy.
Watch yourselves, kiddies....and I JUST posted this same video for a different reason in a different thread...but it rings too true ('Peter' is only a Mike Judd character - techs don't get away with that crap).

I agree with you that having bank alerts is a MUST! Some creep tries to make off with your money in Alaska when you are in Georgia and in fact you JUST bought gas in Georgia and mysteriously you bought or attempted to buy gas again three minutes later in Alaska which is many states away.

Your bank is immediately on red flag alert and immediately texts you of your purchase/attempt to buy gas again in Alaska just a few minutes later. You say "I did not use my card in Alaska. I am still in Georgia. The bank stops the thief from making the purchase from your cloned card or gives back the stolen money back to you if the cloned card purchase goes through.
My name is Donathan, pronounced the same way you pronounce Jonathan, except with a D. :D $608 for her brother's scooter. Fair is fair my ass. Being tough on Public Access TV is priceless.

Hey PaW, if you ever need any help in changing identities, Donathan could help you with that...  LOL

And if you need a credit card for travel, I believe you can get pre-paid ones instead of risking your regular cards...

Our Discover card got hacked at a local Indian casino...they did not charge us for the evil bastards maxing it out on the east coast.

WinkI use Debit MasterCard for personal, but retain a corporate card for business - and you may have found Donathan a future. Have you ever considered adopting it?Big smileLOLWink

Using a debit card is very risky.

I use a credit card for all my purchases.

If someone hacks it, the most I'd be responsible for is $50.

Pay the bill once a month.

Actually, where security is heading (after 'the chip') is downright Orwellian.
Biometrics.
And they're already starting implementations with 'voice recognition', which I like since the bad guy could no longer threaten me by driving a long hatpin through my throat, to rob me. The bad part is if you get hoarse from illness.

I agree about debit cards; I've never used one for that reason.  I too use credit cards for most all my purchases, except for gasoline, which I pay for with cash because it's cheaper that way here in CA.  All my credit cards have zero liability, so you should check yours, Jimbo; I think the $50 responsibility is from the old days.  You can also sign up for email alerts on your credit cards so whenever you use it, you get an email.  If someone else uses your number online or by phone, you'd be alerted immediately.

I pay my bill in full monthly and never pay interest, rather, I get rewards and regularly get cash back and cash credits on my bills.

Big smile
