Known for such classics as The Godfather Part II, Do the Right Thing, Moonstruck and Harlem Nights, Aiello passed away this morning at the age of 86. May he RIP.
I remember him from a few shows including The Professional, which starred Jean Reno as a hitman who takes in a young Natalie Portman after her family is murdered. Aiello was the mafia leader. |

His shtick was playing New York/Brooklyn Italian stereotypes.
I remember he was also in Madonna's Papa Don't Preach video, playing "papa" to Madonna's pregnant "teenage chick with a guido boyfriend" character. If you have never seen it, check out an indie film he was in called Dinner Rush, set in a NYC restaurant that his mob bookmaker character owned and in which his young son was manager and head chef. Pretty good flick. He was a decent actor, but I felt a bit overexposed for awhile in the 80's, in a fad actor, "Italian stereotype du jour" kind of way. But RIP to him. |
