Warning:  If you hate spoilers, do not enter this thread.

First up:  "No country for old men"

The good things:  Acting was excellent, photography, excellent, story was good, but....

... The writer sure didn't know what to do with his characters, because he simply killed them off instead.  Two hours of sitting through the movie, and then when the end came up, it was "That's it?".  There was no finish to this movie, it copped out.  It felt like the last half hour was left off.  In fact, the movie wasn't even about the guy that found the money, or the sheriff, but was about the serial killer hunting people down.  My impression afterwards was that he was the "hero" of the movie/book's author. Disturbing.  (Sorry, I like it when the baddies get their's in the end.)
I'll pass on even seeing it again. It's certainly disappointing enough not to own....

I was a little disappointed with "I am Legend".  I paused it and went to use the potty and came back, got my soda and munchies hit play and BOOM movie over.  WTF!  Hmmm, seems like the middle of the movie was missin.  Sorry, if I ruined it for anyoneDisapprove

I liked No Country for Old Men.

*Spoilers*

I think that Chigurh was represented that way, not as a hero, but as a representation of an increasingly violent world. And in an increasingly violent world, who is better to feature, than someone who is, essentially, an avatar of death. The "hero", is really Tommy Lee Jones' sheriff, who is trying to come to terms with said world.

I am most likely in the minority on this one but "Superbad" was superbad.  Mclovin was the only funny part in the whole movie.  I really wanted that fat kid to die.  Maybe thats a little harsh but what is so frikin funny about using the filthiest language just for shock value.  I will admit that I swear like a sailor but even I thought it was too much.  Kinda made the movie not funny.  No substance just foul language.

Yeah, the Mclovin parts were the only thing worth watching in that movie. As for the fat kid, it seems that all he does is curse in movies (apparently that's his schtick.)  He should be stuffed down a toilet just like the guy in 'Fargo' got stuffed down the woodchipper....

My wife said the same thing about that movie.  Perhaps it was "edited to death" like some past bad movies were.  The one I am referencing is "Supergirl" starring Helen Slater which is one of the worst movies ever made.  There were many parts cut from it that could have made the movie run smoother but it still would have been terrible.

"No Country for Old Men" was IMO a great  movie, because of it's realism. So many times Hollywood throws the happy ending at you and that's just ISN't the way real life works out most of the time, especially when you are dealing with scumbags!! I think we all were expecting the Happy Ending part and were denied it, and that's where the empty feeling you guys are talking about came from. Same way with that older movie "Message in a Bottle" and "Pay it Forward", we felt gypped. At least in PIF you could appreciate the child's sacrifice for his 'fellow man (kid)' My wife got soooooo pissed at "Bridge to Terabithia" that she litterally threw the cat outside!! LOL I laughed my ass off at her but she was HOSTILE!!!! I did think that was totally unnecessary!!

"Gone, Baby Gone" was another flick that I loved, but at the end I felt so sorry for the little girl, and I'll stop there in case you haven't seen it.

I agree with you guys about "Superbad" wholeheartedly! I wondered after watching it if that was the title or the description???

Now, there is one movie saga I absolutely could not stand! I know you guys are gonna crawl up my ass on this one, but I just can't get into it and I've tried. The Matrix movies!! I know, you think I'm nuts, and that you loved those movies, and DUDE THEY'RE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! but not to me, and heres why:

1. the story was just too much for me. It was too complicated. I got it, just didn't like it. In Movie one when Larry Fishbourne was going on and on about the rabbit hole thing, I was like, "Is this f**king guy ever going to shut the f**k UP!!! Ten minutes later I'm like, DAMN!! HE'S STILL GOING!!!!! I just don't want to have to think THAT f**kin hard about a frigging movie.

2. The fight scenes got on my nerves. Having studied Martial Arts some I hate it when fighters wear the wires and FLY all around the damn screen. It LOOKS SOOOOO DAMNED FAKE!! I know it's a movie and the fight scenes are staged, but dammit aren't you supposed to at least make them look real??? No one can jump up into the air 10 feet and then stop dead still. Then rotate 360 degrees 5 times, then launch forward flying across the screen 60 feet and kick someone 50 yards into a steel building, and they just jump up and  run back in!! STUPID!!! I don't mind it so much in Superman, or on Star Wars because these guys CAN DEFY GRAVITY, but an ordinary Joe? NAH!!! I'm not buying it. But what's worse, is that all this Kung Pow Fool fighting occurs only after the actors have shot at the hero guy with enough small arms ammo to sink a battleship. They watch him dodge bullets, catch them in his teeth, and they just can't kill the f**k, but now they throw the gun at him and proceed to finish him off with their fists????? OK Bucko, you do that!!!!
AW DAMN!!!! Wild Shot the friggin TV again!!!

1.  8 Mile (can't stand Eminem/Feminem, such a damn poser)
2.  The Scorpion King (see #4)
3.  High School Musical 1, 2, 3
4.  The Game Plan (In fact, I can't stand any movie with The Rock in it, he's such a sellout; but in the movie "Reno 911: Miami", he gets blown up, which was cool)
5.  Get Rich or Die Trying (can't stand 50 Cent/50 sh*ts either; 'nuff said)

My five worst. Angry Dead

*spoilers*
I didn't like Hancock. To me it seemed like 2 movies put together. The first two thirds was all about Hancock as a superhero and the last third was about Hancock's relationship with Mary and their powers.

After waiting for a long time for this thing to hit DVD..............it was like an out-of-work porn actor.......limp!!!! Vin Deisel did an excellent job with what he had to work with, but the movie was horrible..IMO.

Vantage Point was pretty good, but it's hard to follow. You are watching an assassination of the President, and you are seeing the different vantage points from various peoples points of view. It's well done, just a little hard to follow. I own the movie now, and I'll be watching it several more times. I recommend this one, IF...you like movies that move fast. If you are more of a sleeper movies lover, I'd stay away from it. The story is very interesting, and it's extremel confussing at first, but as it progresses, you get a good picture of all the different elements of the plot.

My approach to tell if a movie sucks:

-The annual wedding movie is always lame
-If you see a guy hit in the groin during the preview for the movie, it is going to suck
-Bad washed up actors that never seem to go away
-The annual teenage party movie
-talking babies or talking animals
-Any movie that is used to push some (usually liberal) issue
-Any movie that is pushed to win awards generally for the reasons above

The Deer Hunter, my husband made me watch it.  He said it was a war movie ( I like those).  well... he lied.  That was the longest damn wedding scene EVER.

"The Royal Tenenbaums"

"Steve Zisou, Life Aquatic"
For some reason they led you to believe that these movies were comedies, liars.  I suppose they were mildley amusing.  I have been told that I have a dry sense of humor so I would imagine they should have been funny to me.  Of course, the fanboys will tell you that you obviously just didn't "get it".  I think thats just what they say when the media tells them they should love a movie and they don't "get it either".

HEY!!! How could you NOT love that little razor-toothed mudpile that got sucked into outer-space, through the 4-inch window while crying for "Mama", in the end of the movie???!!!

Enemy at the Gates

Holy sh*t, that was awful! Especially the totally stupid, gratuitous love scenes.

Alfie

Another one of those "Why won't this f*cking idiot shut the f*ck up and actually get on with the damn story!?" All the Alfie character does is narrate the whole freakin' time, like we're too stupid to actually figure out what's going on in the movie without being told!!!Angry

Come to think of it, I hate most movies that have Jude Law in them. LOL

That movie had great promise but they ruined it. The love scenes, and the fact that there was never a German Major Konig( Ed Harris) during Stalingrad.

Pearl Harbor.
A great moment in history, ruined with love scenes & adultery.
