Agreed.

After 9/11, a lot of people were referring to the terrorists as "cowards".  I didn't agree.  I thought they were very brave, and still think so about suicide bombers.

Funny pic.

Sorry- but this pisses me off. Speak for yourself, but don't presume you speak for "most" people.

So your first instinct would be to KILL a lot of innocent people to solve your problems, instead of finding another solution?  I guess you aren't (thankfully!) like "most" other people then....

Look, when we signed up we knew the danger. Being put into a battle situation was what we prepared for. I knew a lot of people who were scared to go into battle, hell- you had to be nuts not to be scared. But I never heard of a single person who ran away like a little bitch during my time in.

The shooter was not in a combat zone.  He turned the building into one.  Has that distinction not registered with you?

Live or die, its what we enlisted for. And being in a scary, morally contradictory situation was exactly what a lot of us were. I was in a unit with a LOT of Arab/Muslim Americans, mostly from around my home area. Not ONE of them failed to perform their duties for their HOMELAND (America). None of them hid, or went AWOL. These men were firing shots at people they could have been related to.

Huh, so did the Major, in a manner of speaking i.e. firing shots at his colleagues.  (According to you, that's preferable to going AWOL.)

If people had your mentality the Revolutionary War never would have happened, and we'd all be driving on the left side of the road.

^^ "strawman"

Now, I know I've gone and done it again- I've angered a seniority poster who is probably friends with all the powers that be, and I don't care. Say what you will, get Holly to scold me again, have Mooch threaten me with physical violence again, have me banned, I really could care less at this point.

Sleepy )

That was just coward-speak. MOST military personnel would NOT run away.

<sarcasm on> No, they'd go off and kill a lot of "friendlies" because it would be a lot less disgraceful than going AWOL. <sarcasm off>  Judging from your mentality, you and Major Nidal Malik Hasan have quite a lot in common.  And that should be scary to "most" people....

Yesterday was the Fort Hood memorial. I watched it and tears came to my eyes several times. I nearly lost it when that soldier started singing Amazing Grace but I held it together because I was at the doctor's office. it was so sad. Those poor families...CryCry

One thing though - I was watching ABC News' coverage and Charles Gibson accidentally called President Obama "President Bush" when he finished his speech. That cracked me up, especially after he realized his mistake. Guess we know where his preferences lie.
