I know there are multiple threads about these commercials but the latest ads are killing me.

There are two that I have seen, probably more to come.

They both start the same, the Mac guy is standing there looking oh so ironically hip and the PC guy is:

  1. Sitting at a desk reporting the "news" of the Windows 7 rollout and going to a street reporter who interviews people who are excited because they are switching over to a Mac now. Like, as if to say, "That's IT! If I see another upgrade to Windows I am going to a Mac! What? Windows 7? I warned you Microsoft! How dare you attempt to improve your product! It's OVER!"
  2. Standing in his spot while going back in time to each rollout of a new version of Windows saying how the same problems won't happen any more now that they are coming out with Vista, Millennium, etc. His clothes and hair change to reflect this reverse in time.

Okay, I guess what pisses me off the most is the product itself. I have only used a Mac once, when I was forced to, in college when I was in the media lab. Useless. Granted, it was early 1990's, but useless. And am I the only person who has never had a problem with my PC? I get the Norton's Anti-Virus and have never gotten a virus, which amazes most people when they realize I am not bragging or exaggerating how much porn I download.

I am sure Macs work just fine for people familiar with them, but that doesn't mean they need to cop an attitude about it. You know what? I found something that PC users can do that Mac users can't do: SHUT THE F*CK UP! All I ever see are commercials with these dim bulbs who are so excited about being part of the "Mac Community". Excuse me? WTF is the "Mac Community"? Does this mean you ironically hip jackasses will soon be leaving to create your own society in Guyana? Just be sure to remember the Kool Aid, jerks.

I hope you all get cancer.

I hate those commercials as they are kind of mean spirited an obnoxious.

Also the cool Mac dude kept wearing mostly T shirts and jeans, which is slightly annoying.
I'll rant more about this later.

I myself am indifferent. I acknowledge a lot of mac's superiority but also fine merit and value in PC that and a familiarity with it. Not to mention Windows "problems" that many speak of now are pretty minimal compared to the previous years.
My wife is a graphic designer (or at least that's her degree) and she is a mac person, as is her entire family.
I was like an old man using "electronic" mail for the first time at the senior center when I got on to her mac but after awhile it was smooth sailing.

that said, I get the whole smugness of the so called "Mac Community".

As for the ads, I have always liked them. They are clever and witty. Plus Jon Hodgman plays the PC and he is simply put, a great bit player.

What I hated the most was in the time travel ad. They keep showing PC getting younger and younger and changing style depending on the decade or whatever, but Mac keeps looking the f**king same! Justin Long would have been 13 when Windows 3.1 was released. Lame.

All the Mac lovers say, "you just have to get used to it!" I've used my husband's Macbook extensively and do not like it. I hate how the commercials imply that Mac users are hip and cool, and PC users are frumpy and outdated. I understand the strategy, it's just annoying!

I'm tired of the cool dude, uncool dude ads! They just make me feel sorry for the uncool dude.
Like the Cable Guy. The Vios guy seems like a doosh, so I end up thinking, I feel bad for that lunky red headed dude. Poor guy.
Same with these ads. I feel bad for the nerdy PC dude and I want to give him a hug as the Mac dude acts like a doosh and annoys me and it does NOT make me want to pay 984190348 for glossy mac things.

Funny how the nerdy PC guy in the Mac ads is never allowed to point out the fact that PC sales outnumber Mac sales several times over.

Guess ol Mac boy doesn't want anyone to know that little tidbit.

Yuppers, ol'Mule.
'Bottom Line': MAC is for PUBLISHING, period. HAS NO PLACE IN THE "REAL WORLD".
Simply a 'pretty little machine'.

I'm a PC person, but I watch my son and his friends and colleagues using their Macs, and they swear by them.  They don't get viruses or infections.  They also lead the way with innovations, and Microsoft follows.

That said, however, they are much more expensive than PCs.  And when/if your Mac does break down, you have to bring it to an Apple store, and they send it away for a couple of weeks to get fixed.  So you have no computer.  When parts of my PC have stopped working, I can go across the street to Office Depot and replace them immediately.

And I think Justin Long (Mac guy) is cute.  But I always feel bad for PC guy.  I love the new commercial (going back in time), though.

Another batch of good points Faith- Macs break down too. And having to send them away to some secret laboratory is a little creepy at best. You have infinite possibilities in your town if your PC breaks down, and you can likely do the repair yourself.

And if Macs are so perfect, why is there a website called macfixitforums.com?

Maybe its class warfare. They are trying to assert that if you can afford it, you should buy a Mac instead of a PC because then you will be hip. Much like the balding middle aged guy with the spread will buy the convertible Corvette instead of the Malibu.

The irony here is Apple, when it started was all about the the ability to customize and upgrade your computer. At the time PCs (a term non existent at the time) were still clunky boxes with little room for expansion and you had to take them to a tech.

tables turning and all that....

I like both Mac and PC. I use both on a regular basis for different things. I hate the commercials for both companies, though. They both try to make it seem like whoever uses one is a frickin' genius and whoever uses the other is a complete idiot.

WackoGuess that makes me a simultaneous genius/idiot!Wacko

Also I hate that stupid baby music. I saw a funny clip on Youtube making fun of those dumb ads. Urg. That music is so annoying.
Plus I could get a PC with a new monitor for 500 or less with a 3 year warranty. Whereas the Macs I was looking at cost 1149 and have the same basic stuff in them...

I don't mind Macs themselves, just Mac ads. And there's so much wrong with these ads. For one, they're not even attacking the product itself, anymore. They're basically saying, "I bet this software will suck. Even though reviews have been positive, and we really have nothing bad to actually say about it yet. Uhh.. Just wait a few years so we can say it's outdated or something."

Also, the one where there's all the people saying, "I'm so glad we get the chance to switch to Mac now that Win7 has come out." How the f**k does that even make sense? Suddenly, since Win7 is out, that grants them the power to switch to Mac, as if you can only buy a Mac whenever a new Windows comes out? If they weren't going to get Win7 anyway, what's the sense in suddenly changing to Mac all at once for no apparent reason?

XP was/is a pretty rock solid OS. I've ben using it for 8 years now and have never had any major problems. Also, for as much crap as people give Vista I have been using Vista for 2 years now and the only problem I had was high latency in online games, but that was easily fixed by one line at the command prompt.  My Vista machine is up for weeks at a time without rebooting.  In fact, about the only time it gets rebooted is when an update gets installed that requires one. My Vista system is ultra stable.

What they don't tell you when they talk about Macs never getting viruses is that they don't get viruses because there are so few people using Macs that the virus writers don't bother.  They are not invulnerable to viruses, hackers just focus on writing viruses for PCs because there are so many more of them than Macs.  More people using Macs means higher likelihood of viruses coming out for them.  And it doesn't matter anyway as long as you are using good anti-virus software that is kept up to date.  Viruses or the lack thereof is a pretty crappy thing to base your decision on when buying a computer.

In the end, you should buy what you want and will be happy with.  If being trendy is what you want, buy a Mac, or if you actually like the software available and are familiar with it, buy a Mac. Just don't try to act all high and mighty over PC users because PCs are just as powerful and just as stable and usually much cheaper.

I've said it before, I'll say it again...MAC has a niche corner in the 'Real World'.
Simply unfortunate, but APPLE has NEVER taken their heads from between their tails; the business world has little use for them, other than publishing purposes. When it comes to 'tumbling dollars', Windows-based machines live at the presentation-layer for most applications.
MACs can make a pretty web page.
Mind you, I said "WormDoos" is at the *presentation layer"; they DO NOT perform 'real business', and, with that knowledge alone, WILL NOT make you a 'PRO', but they DO tie into 'business-ready' OS's pretty well. Simply a HELL of a lot better than MAC/OS.
MAC is a pain-in-the-ass.

Not that I was ever fond of them (always been a PC gal), but all of the graphic artists (the good ones, anyway) I ever worked with - preferred to work on a Mac.

Maddox? Is that you? Sorry, couldn't resist. +5 for you! Clap

I'm tired of the cool dude, uncool dude ads! They just make me feel sorry for the uncool dude.

Why should you? The "uncool" dude seems to be going somewhere in life and seems moderately successful and seems to be enjoying life. Where the uncool dude just seems to be one of those people whose daily routine involves a 12-4 job at Starbucks, and writing horrible poetry.

Now, the computer itself, I have no issue with, I have seen other people's machines at work and used them myself. They are good, stable machines, just like a machine on Windows XP. On the other hand, the hardcore Mac Fans, just purely uninformed, thinking that the machine makes them greater than anyone out there. I think these ads are just setting up Apple for trouble, making it seem like Macs never get viruses, and there are no viruses written for them through these commercials. I expect as the number of Macs rise worldwide, we might see people having malware (Viruses, Torjens, Worms, etc.) issues with them, just like with a Windows based machine.

No computer expert here, but that is my take on it.
