(I've got to start this...Youngest Pup (Youngest Son), the 'RatWolf', is sick as HELL with this, right now, in lower Texas)

We are all awaiting our chance to get inoculated; MY personal wish is that we, and Our Families ALL get the opportunity and choose to do so.

The manufacturers are currently backlogged beyond belief, if not 'hamstrung' by 'red tape', right now.

'Swine Flu' inoculation? 'Seasonal Flu' inoculation? ANYONE been lucky enough to get them yet? I hope so - even if you don't think you need it, at least you've have the 'right to refuse'.

All the same, while we wait, people are getting sick - REAL sick.

Our youngest son just called, sounding '3 sheets from Hell'; he is in Southern Texas, where the 'Swine Flu' is ravaging the population - and he isn't doing so well. I just BEGGED him to get to the hospital - a parent can tell when THAT is the right advice - and I KNOW I am right.

Here's MY WISH all of YOU make YOUR wisest decision when YOU'VE the opportunity to get inoculated.

Right now, I am kind of 'panicky' and NOT willing to tell his Mother, until she gets home...

Certainly, he will be o.k., in a few days.

Got my regular flu shot.  Doc says people my age are not high risk for H1N1.

No, Hooty - we're the ones that have been inoculated, immunized, and given a cure for every evil we've encountered or brought upon ourselves...this one apparently attacks our young.
I'm scared.

I have not gotten the regular shot, but I hope I can get the H1N1 shot.
I'm so annoyed that all of these folks seemed to have run out of regular flu shots.

My son starts his new job at Novartis soon.  He will be investigating new medicines.

Novartis just announced they will have 90M H1N1 doses available by December.

I understand one should wait a few weeks between shots - anyone else heard that? (it makes sense)

Up here, as in South Texas, we're losing kids and young adults, at a high rate.
This one is worrisome.

I'm getting the H1N1 as i'm in two/three high risk groups

1. I'm 20, part of the group of teens/young adults at high risk

2. I have asthma so I have a crap immune system

3. I work at a pharmacy and am pretty sure there's some swine flu germs lying around there..... :)

We're all getting immunized, at our house, and have already gotten the seasonal flu shots.  Daughter got her first dose of H1N1 flumist last week, the second will hopefully be available to her when she needs that - although she is close to the age when they don't need two doses, anyway.  We're anxiously waiting until adult doses are available, period.

In the meantime, we're doing everything we can to minimize our family's exposure.

Husband is still recovering from cardiac surgery, which was required after a mysterious bacterial infection - the cause of which is still unknown.  He was extremely healthy before that illness (which, btw, nearly killed him).

Those of you that think you are somehow impervious to germs, are extremely naive.

MissyDWolf's store lost a regular customer to H1N1 so she informed me, this morning.
Was one of the 'Coffee Time Lotto Ladies'.
Her husband took her to a local hospital that informed them she "had a severe case of bronchitis" and sent them home. He took her to her last hospital four hours later.

ALL flu clinics in this area, have been canceled - shortages.

Around here, a lot of people are VERY sick, with flu symptoms, but supposedly they are not even testing most cases, for influenza, any more.  So whether it's H1N1 or not seems to be not much more than an educated guess.  At the very least, a lot of people are getting very, very sick.  If you don't trust the media, spend some time talking to actual neighbors, people in town, at work, etc.  You'll probably find that this is not something to ignore.

However there have been some confirmed cases.  For instance, a friend has four children.  The oldest is 14 and was the first to get sick.  Her case was confirmed as H1N1.  The other three and her husband subsequently became sick with the same symptoms, so H1N1 was assumed for them as well.  Whether it was reported, I don't know.

Thor I hope your neighbor's family does not have flu; why not believe them?

Long and not incredibly interesting story.  Basically, this is probably just his latest excuse for refusing to speak with my buddy Charlie, his former landlord, to whom he owes $5,500 in back rent and damages and stolen appliances/fixtures to a house he was renting from him.

Odd and unpleasant family.

I did, too.  It was so fast, and much easier than trying to get in to see my PCP.

I haven't gotten the shot and I don't think I'm going to. (Mooch and needles don't get along.) No one in my family has gotten the shot, as far as I know. They were giving them out at work a few weeks ago but it was on a day that I was off. Ironically, I was sick that day.

Speaking of which, what exactly ARE the symptoms of the swine flu, anyway? I had a BAD case of the flu two weeks ago and I'm still recovering. I had a fever that kept coming back, was sneezing up a storm, had NO energy to speak of and unexplainable stomachaches. I thought I was completely over it all but this past Monday my throat started hurting like nobody's business and I was coughing quite a bit. As of today, my throat's not as bad as before but I'm still coughing and I'm losing my voice. I sincerely hope that this isn't more than the regular flu.

According to the CDC, like seasonal flu, symptoms of swine flu infections can include:
  • fever, which is usually high, but unlike seasonal flu, is sometimes absent
  • cough
  • runny nose or stuffy nose
  • sore throat
  • body aches
  • headache
  • chills
  • fatigue or tiredness, which can be extreme
  • diarrhea and vomiting, sometimes, but more commonly seen than with seasonal flu

So basically, who knows? No clear indicator of swine v. regular flu.  I got assigned as our office's rep on the "Swine Flu Task Force" this summer, and got to attend a few "inside" briefings. (I put "inside" in quotes because it doesn't really count if you've got inside contacts with high-level bureaucrats who have no more clue than you do about what's going on.) They announced our state Dept of Health stopped counting and testing for swine flu cases over the summer because "if you have the flu in the summer, it's probably swine flu."

Brilliant. Think I'll just pass on that vaccine you're pushing.
Dozens and dozens of threads killed.

Threadkiller, I saw that list of symptoms, and noted that Mooch has many of them...but figured I'd just let someone else be the bearer of the bad news.  Evil%20SmileBig%20smile
