It looks like they're back at attacking "fried" (grilled) burgers from McDonald's and Wendy's like they did in the '80s.

"It looks like we got the deck stacked over Wendy's FRIED burger"

Just because you "flame-broil" a burger doesn't mean it's better, especially when you're still using a frozen beef patty then keep them under a hot lamp after you do "flame-broil" the meat.

Besides, some of the best burgers out there are "fried." Do you see a "flame-broiler" at an In-N-Out?

You may have the deck "stacked," but you still lose.

I had a room mate that almost died from eating BK. I'll stick to In N Out and Jack in the Box.

Their burgers DO happen to be a lot better than McDonald's, but to attack them on the point of being healthier is just asinine.

I rather dig Burger King fries
But I'm trying not to go to McDs or Burger King to punish them for their stupid commercials.

It seems that BK hates McD with a passion and I hate these commercials too!

I'm pretty sure they didn't say they were any "healthier".
But Burger King does have a point. I mean, it's not like a little burger is going to fill you up automatically. I always order 2 burgers when I go to Mickey D's.

I'll take the BK Double Cheeseburger everytime.

I don't now about the health advantages or disadvantages of one vs. the other, but I will say that McD's cheeseburgers are so greasy, it literally drips off the patty onto the wrapper as I'm eating them, whereas BK's don't.

I think if there's a health advantage w/flame broiling, it's because a lot of the grease drips off the patty as it travels on that metal rack thing over the open flame, whereas when McD's burgers are frying on that solid flat grill surface, the grease doesn't drip off.

And the flame broiling gives them a better taste, too.

I wouldn't say that Burger King is trying to market their burgers as "healthier" (just the thought of "more beef, more cheese than McDonalds or Wendy's" gives that away).

I'm sure that BK's "flame broiling" technique and mechanism is exclusive to them, but if everyone thought their burgers taste better than McDonald's because of that, why aren't they the number one burger chain? And then I beg to ask the question why don't the more successful regional chains grill their burgers over a fire if that would make them taste better?

But, I do think BK's recent ad where they say "we think ours taste better, but that's just our opinion" was well executed. They don't make many winners in their marketing department, but that one does win points on honesty.

I'd be satisfied if any burger shown in an ad turned out to be anywhere near that thick (total sandwich-wise, that is) when you buy one.

I've seen the BK double cheeseburger ad all this weekend, and it looks like it's about 3" thick. Probably a real one is about a third that.

Agreed. It seems like that every fast-food chain is a culprit of this!

Same thing happened with the McD double cheese burger.
It was all smushed and squashed like they sit on it before they give it to you.
Or get an elephant to do that.

The radio ads for this are really annoying:
"Put your BK double cheeseburger next to my McDonald's double cheeseburger!
WHOA! It totally dwarfs it! You DWARFER!"

Can't always judge quality by popularity. For instance, rap "music" has gone on for several decades, despite how repetitive and senseless it really is.

Isn't the "flame broiling" mechanism really just a big gas grille? They might have service-marked the phrase "flame broiled" but I doubt they have an exclusive on the device.

Heck, I usually flame broil my burgers when I cook out, even when I don't mean to. Gotta replace those lava rocks.

BTW, Snesgamer, great analogy with the rap music. I too prefer BK's burgers (or did, before I was put off so badly by their "king" ads). Had BK saturated every market with locations before McD's did, they probably would be No. 1. Around here, there's about a 6:1 ratio of McDs to BK.

My GOD- does NO ONE understand the commercial?

  1. They are selling their 1/4 lb double cheese burgers for $1.00, as opposed to McDonald's 1/5 lb double cheese burgers that cost $1.19 (the "McDouble" that is on the dollar menu only has one piece of cheese- both BK and MickyD's double cheese burgers have two pieces of cheese, apparently McDonald's thinks a slice of American cheese costs $.19)
  2. Their play on words, "...they don't have a 'Monopoly'..." and "... you don't have to own a hotel..." is a direct mocking of McDonald's Monopoly promotion (expect the $1 BK Double Cheese Burger promo to go away ihn a week when McD's Monopoly thing is over)

Personally, I like the commercial (as much as I can like any commercial), and I prefer the BK taste over Krock's Kreations. Unfortunately, after the promo is over, watch the price of a BK Double Cheebugga go back up to $1.99, at which time I will throw taste out the window and start hitting the Don again for their $1.19 double heart attacks.

Just saw this commercial and the tiny fine print at the bottom says "prices and participation may vary". WTF? The whole commercial is about the fact that the burger is ONE DOLLAR!!!! How can prices vary? Crazy!Confused

They have to say that for legal reasons. Not every BK is corporate owned, those that are franchises aren't required to participate- its up to the individual owners to decide if they want to do so. Because franchises exist in almost every market, the fine print is to keep some yahoo that doesn't undersatand the concept of corporate owned vs. private franchise from demanding a $1 double cheese burger if the franchise they meander into isn't participating.

Also- if you have ever been to Hawaii or Alaska you would see that almost none of the promotions we enjoy CONUS are observed there.
