Another case of rock bands remaking classic songs they should leave alone.

Every time that guy sings "There's nothing you can do that can be done..." in that annoying, girly, whiny voice, I just get irritated. Seriously, who would be dumb enough to think this version of the song is better than the Beatles? Or even good, for that matter?

When I first saw this commercial during the ALCS, I thought it was a TV ad for EXPRESS due to all those hip clothes and funky hairstyles found in their print ads. Only when I saw the BlackBerry logo at the end did I know that it was for BlackBerry. As a marketing student, this ad violates two marketing rules that I learned in class:
  1. Don't make your ad look like an ad for something else (a major mall clothing store, in this case).
  2. Unless it's a teaser ad for an unreleased product, always show the product up-close.
Even worse, I own a BlackBerry. Should I now feel ashamed of myself?

Here's the ad:

3. Don't f**k with the rhythm of a classic Beatles' song.  Actually don't f**k with any classic song, period.

Wow. Any more companies that want to feature an idiotic remake of "All You Need Is Love" in their ads? Seriously, it's way past annoying and overdone at this point.

It's a bad move anyway. If all I need is love, I don't need your stupid product. Thanks for informing me.

There's an annoying sub-trend going on with the appearance of all these broccoli hairstyles among otherwise attractive African-American women.  Are they supposed to be "hep"?

This one sucks.  But I don't mind remakes---Beatles'or otherwise.  They didn't either.  They did their share of covers.  In fact, their early albums were half cover versions of others' songs.

Broccoli hairstyles?! ROTFLMAO!!!!! Priceless!

I hate this commercial, too. My sister and I saw it last night and I was focused on that woman's hideous hair and she was lamenting the massacre of yet another classic song. In the midst of it, I was wondering what the commercial was for and then I found out - for Blackberry. This piece of shyte ad is for a phone?! I didn't see a phone or anything that would have indicated it was a phone commercial. Even an infant knows you're supposed to make the ad relevant to the product...what's these people's issue?

I like them, I mean in general - I don't like all the elements, but the whacky hair certainly doesn't bother me.  I'm generally pretty inflexible when it comes to remakes of classic songs, but I get why going with the original might not be a completely sound strategy.  I'm a Beatles fan and think the orignial might sound a little dated for a younger audience.

I'm a BB user / lover and I like the way this ad makes me feel about that.

Ugh, this commercial is extremely annoying. I cringe every time I hear the first line of the song in the commercial. Then they all go on to do things that have absolutely NOTHING to do with their Blackberry.  There's one where a guy texts his girlfriend as she storms out of a restaurant and that makes whatever they were fighting about all better. Other than that you pretty much don't even see them using their Blackberries at all. Stupid.
