I just saw this informercial this morning for bottle tops for soda cans...I am tempted when they reach the drug store shelves to pick up a set...looks like it may do the trick for leftover soda.  What do you guys think?Thumbs%20Up

Nope. Once you crack the seal, soda pop starts to lose it's carbonation (goes flat), and all those attempts are doomed to failure. The only mild exception is the large screw cap bottles. If you open one, then decide not to pour any, and immediately replace the screw cap tightly, and right back into the refrigerator, when you pour some later, it will be just about as good as one that you never opened. But pour half of a two liter Coke bottle, cap it, and come back tomorrow, it will be as flat as the sidewalk.

Those can seals will keep other food scents from getting into the left over soda, so your Coke doesn't have an asparagus or Limburger cheese flavor to it, but it won't hold in the carbonation. You might get better results with one of those gadgets if you first dumped a bunch of clean glass marbles into the can to bring the level up high to eliminate the extra air, but the act of dropping the marbles in would also fizz away all the fizz.

I think the Myth Busters did this one a couple of years ago. I know they did one on the gadgets to reseal a bottle of wine, to keep it from oxidizing and going bad, including the marble thing to force out most of the air. Didn't work, in spite of the moniker "As Seen on TV".

I know someone that often cuts their lip on the opening of a soda can. This might be something good to deal with that. And all their other claims look valid, such as keeping out ants during a picnic. But I'd take the "retains carbonation" claim with a very large grain of salt.

I think it looks pretty awesome.
Again, the "old way" in the video is ridiculous as usual.
Not black-and-white, though, as I would have hoped.

An open can of soda by itself on a shelf of the fridge door? Give me a break.
Only your 4-year-old would do that.

I keep a can of soda going at all times.  So, yes, I keep an open can of soda in my refrigerator.  But I drink maybe four cans per day, so it doesn't really have time to go flat.

The thing advertised won't prevent the soda from going flat, but it will slow the process down.

Another thing that keeps soda carbonated, especially in a 2 liter bottle, is pouring it gently.  Letting it glug glug glug it's way out, just helps release the carbonation inside the bottle.

I am weird in disliking carbonation.

It feels like drinking shards of glass.
