I have nothing against Florida Oranges or people who like them. But there ads seem to be a little biased. The commercials seem to say that only Florida has good oranges, nowhere else. And the reason why other companies have imported oranges is because of trading agreements, and it's good for the other country's economy.

I think the Florida Orange people should be nice and promote oranges and orange juice from California and other places, too.

When something is true, it's just true.
If you ever have the occasion to pick a a great, big, fat, ripe, juicy Florida navel orange right off the tree, peel it & eat it, you'll know exactly what they're talking about.
Best oranges in the world.
Up until about 3 years ago when the state came & cut it down due to a citrus canker scare, I had one of the best navel orange trees in my backyard I'd ever seen. Average seasonal yield was about 250 oranges off that one tree. I couldn't even give half of them away. I'd start picking them around November & I'd still be eating oranges everyday well into the next spring. By the time I finished them all, I'd be sick of them.
Some of them were the size of grapefruits, sweet & just bursting with juice.
Sometimes I'd sit down & eat like 8 or 10 oranges in one sitting.

Sorry Thor, but I just don't think that we here in Florida could in good conscience promote those sour, dried up, seed-filled little things you guys grow out there.
Hell, we're not even convinced those things are really even oranges!!!!

If I still had my tree, I'd box a bunch of em up & send em to any CIH members who were willing to pay the postage.

Several years ago a friend and I were on vacation in So. California and struck up a conversation with another couple. They were a husband and wife team who drove a semi truck cross country. They hauled oranges from California to Florida and then drove another load of oranges from Florida to California. Go figure. In this instance I have to agree with Jimbo. In my opinion, Florida oranges are better.

Oddly enough, the grocery stores here in Florida sell California oranges.
Again, go figure.
I suppose the Florida oranges going back to California were for companies who pack them up & ship them for a profit.

As I said in the first post, it's because of trading agreements, and for a better economy. Go figure, again. BTW, have you seen the potato commercials which is the best? Apparently since Idaho is the State of the Potato, then im guessing they have the best potatoes. Or if you don't like Idaho potatoes, then im guessing Ireland, a whole different country. |

Having lived in Florida breifly, I can say that Florida oranges are pretty good. I don't understand why I should care where my oranges come from though. It's the same thing with the "Happy cows come from California" BS. I don't care where the cow is, I just want some good tasting cheese and milk. It seems like a waste of money to advertise things the general public cares very little about.

We get the California Cow commercials here too. The dairies are local and we have cows.

I'm pretty sure this commercial is taking a stab at Tropicana. Florida's Natural only uses Florida oranges, but Tropicana imports oranges from Brazil and mixes them with Florida oranges, but they dont make it very clear. But Tropicana sponsors the Rays, so I will buy Tropicana. Plus they don't have annoying commercials.

I sometimes buy Tropicana too, but not really a rays fan. But it's really confusing for people when Tropicana says they import oranges from Brazil and mix it with Florida oranges. But I heard in Brazil the Oranges are pretty good. |

Has everything to do with climate & soil conditions. Some places have growing conditions that are just more ideal for certain products than anywhere else. Same with grapes & vineyards. California has the best climate in America to grow wine grapes.
Florida's oranges are bigger, juicier & sweeter than California's or Brazil's. Plus, they grow several varieties down here, including seedless & juice oranges. |

Oh I understand all about the fact that Florida is perfect for citrus, but I meant as a person who eats and drinks very little orange it doesn't matter to me all that much. |
