I don't know about you guys, but I certainly am tired of seeing commercials for places that are nowhere near me. Why air these ads in markets that are not served by these places? This has bothered me to no end.

The following is a list of commercials for places that air here but are not in my hometown (NYC):

- Sonic (these commercials are so stupid, I would boycott this place because of them)

- Golden Corral

- Wal-Mart (yes it's true; NYC has everything EXCEPT a Wal-Mart...go figure)

- Red Robin

- Dairy Queen

What about you guys? What ads do you see for places that aren't near you?

Denny's pretty much left the area, but we still get commercials.

BTW, we have two Sonics within 4 miles of my house, the food is great, and their commercials crack me up.

Red Lobster. There's no red lobster near me so why must i see these ads with succulent shrimp and delicious looking steak when there's NO RED LOBSTER NEAR ME!

These usually show up on Cable channels for me, I don't think I ever saw them on a cable channel.
But the ones for me are:
-Dave and Busters
-Red Robin
-Jack in the Box

None of these 3 are even in the same state as me! I think these 3 are notorious for running ads for their places despite a pretty limited national presence.

Sonic used to be an issue but the recently started building one in my town so I can scratch that off the list.

Jack in the Box is still bad though, I don't even think there's any in my state.

Probably ad space sold at the network instead of local level.  Then again, it might be subliminal advertising, so that when you go traveling to another area of the country you'll think "Ohh! I remember an ad for that place. Maybe I'll try it."  Sneaky bastards, aren't they...?

I know especially because I miss places like Sonic and Red Robin but rest assured while there aren't any in NYC (for shame) you can now find Sonic off Rt. 46 West near Totowa, NJ, Red Robin off Route 3 East in Clifton, NJ and of course DQ and Walmart are all over NJ.  Dunno where Golden Corral is though, I've never see it.  Maybe they have it out on Long Island.  Unfortunately since you've got the same channels and shows airing in a tri-state area you're gonna get those commercials for places you have to drive 2 hours out of the way to get too:(  That being said if you're a fan of it down in the Orlando area, a Bahama Breeze just opened up near the Willowbrook Mall... unfortunately, my ass just moved to Maine a few weeks ago DOH!

Grrrrrr I hate this too, they advertise these great specials and meals and get your mouth watering and there is not one to be found:

Sonic
Red Robin
Golden Corral
Dave and Busters

We have an old Dairy Queen in the bad part of town and then some that share the building with El Pollo Loco etc.  We have Wall-Mart around as well, but about 12 miles away from me.

Der Wiennerschnitzel is in the are but wish there was one closer to me...sometimes you just gotta have a chilli-cheese dog!

Hootman...wow Woolworths, one of my favorite stores...all gone now from the area.  Same with the Kresge stores they dissapeared around the 70's around here.  I remember the Lums name there may have been one around the entire area.  May Company...well that is Robinson's May now here.  Remember J K Gill clothing stores?  Or Orbachs?

Hardee's

I don't see much  commercials from them, but they don't even exist on the NE Coast such as New England, New York, New Jersey, and both the Cleveland and Philadelphia Regions.

Pep Boys

I see the commercials...but where the hell is a Pep Boys in my area?

While not in Cleveland city limits, there are Hardees within 30 miles of Cleveland in Akron, Seville, and Willoughby.

I constantly see ads for A&W restaurants (the one where the guy steals the other guy's food especially pisses me off). We used to have one in the next town, but that closed almost ten years ago. Now the closest one is in Tennessee (and I'm in Colorado).

There used to be 2 Whataburger places fairly close by but it's been years since I've been to that side of town. Yet I can't remember ever seeing a Whataburger commercial.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean.

I live nowhere NEAR a Dunkin' Donuts, yet they keep telling me how much better they are than Starbucks, which is basically what everyone loves around here. xD

And same with Golden Corral. I have no idea where those are.

There used to be a Red Lobster in San Jose, a loooooong time ago. I left in 1979. I think is was on Meridian, forgot the cross street, in a corner shopping center. At least, I think that is what it was.

There is an Olive Garden near me, in a very small shopping center. I avoid that place like the plague during the lunch hour. They have the rudest, most self important jerks of customers I've ever almost run into, if they way they park and drive in the parking lot is any indication! Angry I won't go there myself because of that noon crowd, even at other times of the day. They have nothing I want. And their TV ads used to be some of the most annoying eatery ads out there.

As far as ad for places you don't have near you, it is probably cheaper, when buying time on a national cable channel, to just have the ad go everywhere. They probably charge extra to delete markets from the broadcast. That is why so many (all?) of the ambulance chasing shyster class action lawyers and loan companies always have to put up those disclaimers "not an offer in some states or where prohibited". But the cheap jerks won't say what those states are! Tell me. I want to move somewhere that puts restrictions on lawyers!!!WinkBig%20smileCoolApprove There are too many of them already.  And too many of them on TV and Cable.

Well now that the last Golden Corral in the area closed, I can add that to my list. Others included Red Robin and Dave and Busters.
