I washed my windows last week, using yet another product that promises the results are going to be "100% streak-free" and which falls flat on its promise.
I'm not obsessed with window streaks, but it pisses me off when I'm told to expect one result, and I get another.
Anyway, I've resigned myself to this. In the meantime, for occasions when I've just washed the windows, and the streaks are pissing me off, I've found that the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work really well. One light swipe, and the streaks are gone.

I wonder what is in them? They have not failed to get whatever out of whatever for me.

I've never used them on windows, but they work very well on cabinets, baseboards and a few other things I cleaned with them. I've also wondered what's in them.

I hope we all appreciate the information wonderland that is the internet.
According to Wikipedia, this stuff has been in use for 20 years as an insulation for pipes, and as sound-proofing. Here's more info on how/why it works:

Magic erasers ARE magic! I've gotten out every stain/mark/mess that I've ever scrubber with the magic eraser. Last time moved, I cleaned every single mark off the walls to ensure I got my deposit back. They were shocked that I got off decades old marks.

The sponges work well, but they fall apart after awhile. Then again, I expect such products to last forever...especially considering that, for sponges, they're pretty expensive.

Wonderful product...MissyDWolf has kept them around for as long as I can remember. I have to read Thor's link above, as I do want to understand how they work - there are so many things I will not use them on because I don't know why they work so well (do they leave anything behind?).

Just a heads up for a cheaper alternative- Kroger brand is just as good and $1 cheaper for a two pack.

Just what is getting squirted on your inside window panes that you have to "wash" them? Washing windows is outside work. Using Windex (not fake Windex) or strong white vinegar and water(like yer Granny used) on some newspaper sheets will stop your streaking problem. Or maybe you enjoy housecleaning in the nude and then you need to leave the newspaper up. ![]() |

I enjoy cleaning the outside of the windows nude, or in my banana hammock on a cold day.
But yeah. I clean the inside of my windows. They get fingerprints, paw prints, and cigarette grime on 'em.

We get loads of dirt in b/w the screen and inside window. Easy enough to clean, just not much fun.
I once bought an Eraser when I heard it was great for cleaning the microwave, but it didn't seem to help. Was I doing it wrong? Now, we just don't use the microwave.

I think it's meant for getting stuff off that doesn't usually come off easily. For instance, I used mine to clean off some juice stains and other stains that I couldn't get out of the formica countertops in my kitchen. I don't think it's for crusty sorts of crap, like splattered stuff in the microwave.

I find the best way to clean the microwave is by putting some cut lemons in a bowl of water and cooking it in the microwave for several minutes, then let it sit for a few more minutes. The steam and the lemon seem to loosen the junk build up and makes it easier to wipe out....I read it in a magazine a while back and it seems to work pretty well.

DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS PRODUCT (unless you have endless disposable income...)
...this product is just a pre-soaped scrubbie that's over-priced and lacks endurance...
...you're better off to 'invest' in a 'luxury' scrubbie (cellulose sponge material attached to a semi-abrasive thinner pad, often green or blue) that you wet yourself and then use with your chosen cleaning product solution and some good old fashioned (moderate) elbow grease...
[ however, please be aware that the blue/green colour from the abrasive side of said scrubbie may translate to more porous/absorbent surfaces such as flat paint, etc. if used too aggressively; patch-testing is advised ]
