I just saw a commercial for a remote file back up company called Carbonite featuring a mom talking about how her whole life is on her computer. She tries to get "everyone" (her family? It's never mentioned) to back up their files but they just don't. Sigh...poor her. But then she found Carbonite, who will back up her files online for 55 dollars a year! Wow what a good deal
And at the end of it she has the nerve to say it's the best 55 dollars she ever spent. It's SPEND, you are continuously spending 55 dollars, she's acting like she only paid it once which is a lie.Ok, this company is obviously for morons. You'd think by now most people would have an understanding of external hard drives. You can get a 320GB external hard drive to connect to your computer via USB for about 60 bucks, that's what I paid for mine. All you do is drag and drop, and I wager ANYONE could do it. This is just for the severely computer illiterate, and people with money burning a hole in their pocket. There truly is a sucker born every minute. I looked on youtube for a video of the commercial, and found a video about the company from the co founder. His logic is "well...if your house burns down your external drive goes with it". ....ok, so back up to a different one and keep it someplace else, it's STILL cheaper then 55 dollars a year! And from reviews I found online, it isn't as easy as they make it seem. After reading a bunch, here's one of the better ones: http://silvexis.com/blog/2009/06/18/carbonite-not-ready-for-the-real-world/ |

Hurm
I'm reminded of those Blue Hippo ads... You can get a computer from a place like ECollegepc for mega cheap if all you need it is for wussy sort of stuff. That deal sounds like such a rip off. |

If my house burnt down I'd be less concerned about what was on my pc. Don't people use fire rated strong boxes for important junk anymore?
As for the commercial, what if that company goes under or is hacked?

LOL ya know? There's this neat lil invention called the flash drive and if you're not like me and carry it on my keychain at all times you can always put the flash drive in a safe deposit box or one of those fire safes etc.
I've been fighting with my laptop all summer (it's crashed no less than 4 times this year friggin Gateway POS) and since I've had the good sense of keeping copies of my files on my flash drive it's not such a horrendous thing when my laptop dies especially when you consider I've been working on a novel for the past two years and probably would've contemplated taking a swan dive off a bridge if I hadn't been making copies on my flash drive and emailing copies to myself;)

Man, look at Lando Calrissian's face in that picture. The man just wants the Empire to all just go the f**k home.
The man is tired! He has Tw'ilek ladies to woo, some Tauntaun .45 to drink and some Max Rebo music to put on in his pad. |
