Yeah I'm new, but I've been a lurker for a long time. Anyway, this is an awful commercial!
The commercial is advertising some "Golden Corral Thrill of the Grill" thing. The main "character/spokeperson guy" is annoying beyond comprehension. I hate the way he says "grill", I hate the way he orders three main courses for himself, then acts like he should be able to dictate the price. Eh, obviously that's stupid. Who go's to a restaurant and says "All for around ten bucks!"? Noone does. Anyone else hate that commercial? |

Yeah I've seen that chubby-necked grinning douche in a ton of commercials. He's a major "Repeat Offender." Can't stand him.

I hate when the waiter hollers "problem!!" and the guy ordering gives us that stupid smile.
Wouldn't the waiter just say, "Hey pal, the prices are on the menu."

I know. No waiter would yell, "PROBLEM!!!". It's like saying, "WAIT! We don't serve food cheap! It's all incredibly expensive! Get this guy out of here" |

Hearing a big crash sound from another server dropping a tray of dishes would be more realistic after the idiot screams "PROBLEM" |

Yes, it's annoying. It also takes a not-so-subtle stab at a competitor of theirs, Applebee's and their $9.99 dinners....that's why the guy is asking for "steak AND chicken AND shrimp..." at his "neighborhood grill" which is of course Applebee's tagline. An unfair comparison, Applebee's is a sit-down restaurant, Golden Corral is a buffet.
It's one of those annoying commercials that drives their point home with a sledgehammer. |

Oh how I hate this ad! The way the waiter yells "PROOOOBB-LEMMMMM!" makes me want to go on a violent rampage. And what's Golden Corral, anyway? As far as I know, there aren't any here in New York City (don't know about upstate New York) so why are we seeing these ads?

Golden Corral is a buffet restaurant. I like the salad bar and the breakfast, but the lunch/dinner entree part is not so great. The sides and deserts can be OK, but the quality of some of the main entree on the lunch and dinner does not appeal to me. I can't believe how many people see this ad in areas where there are no restaurants. Way to spend those advertising dollars GC!

I hate it when the waiter yells PROBLEM!
It makes me so mad that I want to YELL PROBLEM back at him. Sometimes I do.
On good days I am able to mute the commercial when it comes on but I still hear the PROBLEM! in my head and I hate it.
Die! Golden Corral Die!
PROBLEM? Yes! You and your commericals suck!

I just hate noisy commercials. Which is why I'm starting to drown them out with hard core heavy metal.

I'm not trying to just be perverse but I really LIKE it when the waiter yells, "PROBLEM!". The message is, of course, that the customer's 'ludicrous' price expectation is a FAIL at this place, but that at GC it's NOT a problem. I think it's pretty funny, the timing, physicality, and delivery are spot on.
But, then, I grew up watching Laurel and Hardy and the Sid Caesar shows and I still laugh heartily over Fawlty Towers and AbFab.

Problem is, no server would ever yell "PROBLEM!!!" in the middle of a dining room like that. But the commercial was scripted as if it could happen. So the punchline isn't just silly, it's sophomoric. Whoever wrote it just used the "1-2-boom!" comedy formula and mailed it in from there.

Yeah, I GOT the joke. It was a 'cartoon', ok? You can get very frustrated and wind up walking around with a permanent scowl on your face if you take everything literally, particularly media stuff. Creative types, who gravitate toward the arts and advertising, assume a certain level of hip; often not everybody appreciates it.
P.S. "This is Spinal Tap" was a parody, a spoof.

Permanent scowl huh. Wow, I'm always impressed by those who judge me when they don't even know me.
It's not a matter of being literal, Einstein. Punchlines, no matter how irreverent, should have some element of context for their humor (John Cleese and his Monty Python troupe are perfect examples). Otherwise they're just fart jokes and goofy waiters screaming out in dining rooms. If flatulence is all you need to put a smile on your face, then have at it. But for those of us who've evolved, Uncle-Miltie-in-a-dress humor just doesn't do it any more. Then again who knows. Maybe all of us who posted in this thread just don't appreciate the wit of those zany creative types that work on the Golden Corral account. Hope that works for ya. |

Whoa, Newbies, take it easy!!
![]() I really think stupid commercials like this one are secretly being thought up by the big drug companies, and foisted (yes, I said foisted) on the American public, to drive them crazy. Then, we will have to go get drugs for our anxiety and anger caused by the idiotic commercials that the drug companies themselves came up with. It could happen......... |

I think the entire tagline is deceptive too. All for around $10? That can mean anything, $14 is around ten dollars just as much as $9 or $11 it's all in the same neighborhood. And when you include taxes and everything else i'm sure $15-$20 is more like it. Plus he's ordering 3 different main courses, steak, chicken, shrimp which if you order them together (which nobody does) would come to more like $30. I hate these ads that try to beat thier chest at how cheap and reasonable thier food is, but the commercial is carefully worded to decieve you. Plus i've never even heard of this place.

Uhh, Golden Corral is a buffet. You get all of those things on the buffet, and it's less than $10 per person.
