Maybe it isn't actually "theirs". And maybe that's why they're estranged.

I find it quite annoying how mothers in the presence of the paternal parent always say my daughter, or my son. Especially when the two are estranged. No, it's our son or our daughter. Even if you don't like him, you don't own the kid. The kid belongs to both parents.
