it's basically some gangbanger looking guy or girl talking in a mix of english and spanish i.e. "delicioso beef and queso" or whatever, and then instead of saying "i'm lovin' it" they say "me encanta".
very irritating. ![]() |

You are seeing these comercials in OHIO?? That's crazy!! California makes sense, but Ohio? That's pretty weird. I'm from Missouri and haven't seen them yet, although wal mart and lowes have most of their store signs (inside) and directions in spanish as well.
If latino's keep having baby's and we (the taxpayers) keep on paying for them, (in free healthcare, etc.) get ready for alot more spanish commercials. |

Yeah...when I was vacationing in Arizona, I actually saw a fair number of Spanish McDonald's billboards.
Wonder why it just seems to be McDonald's, though....? |

It's probably another Commercial technique. I guess not many Latinos are interested in McDonalds even though there are McDonald's restaurants in Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, and other latin american countries. |

I see Spanish Billboards all the time where I'm in...and it's in Ohio where the sports teams can't win.
What bugs me is that my ancestors worked hard to speak English and the Hispanics who come here can just skip the English. I don't mean to be stereotypical but...WHEN YOU LIVE IN AMERICA, SPEAK ENGLISH OR LEAVE! |

I agree. I seem to remember that german immigrants pushed for german to be recognized as a national language back in the early 1800's, but were told no because it would segment society. |

my dad is mexican (tex-mex) and is more fluent in english than spanish. nonetheless, he has obviously assimilated to american culture. I never got to know his parents because I couldn't understand them! and they were in Houston! |

Nothing will divide a country more quickly and effectively than multiple languages. It's good for individuals to have several languages, but not for a nation to have several. That just takes the burden off of the newcomer to have to learn one other than their own native language.
McDonalds should show some civic/social responsibility and remove those ads.

Yea, Thor! That's RIGHT!
No matter I live close to a little town that has a motto of "One City, Many Countries"...but I couldn't agree with ya more!
In the U.S. of Americo from the southern regions? Welcome. Speak ENGLISH!
In the U.S. of Chinaco? Speak ENGLISH!
In the U.S. of India? Stop the roachtalk and Speak English!
Personally, I don't give a crap where you are from - but you are HERE - welcome! - now help ME understand YOU (don't make it my job).

I work at a rural country station whose primary audience is mainly over 45. I handle a lot of PSA's that have Hispanic versions that I've really been tempted to install so that I could be rial up our blue-haired listeners!

Ummm, have you seen one? I haven't. We really need to make English our official language and get it over with. |

1st generation immigrants are one thing - I can see these people not speaking or understanding English well. But it really irks me when I see 2nd or 3rd generations being lazy and wanting everything translated into Spanish for them - they've been here in the United States their entire lives, and can't speak the language?

Well, isn't this a lovely little tribute to xenophobia...

Looks like someone "Remembered the Alamo." and so decided, in retribution, to give the whole United States back.

On whose part? Ours, for not learning the language of a country that we don't live in? Or theirs, for not wanting to learn the language of the country that they do live in? Or maybe the actual xenophobes are people like you who actually prefer they remain separate from the rest of the culture.
Y'see, cornholio, most people actually want those people to learn English and become part of the culture. This way, they don't have to be "those people". They can be "us". Just like my grandparents.

Correct. Having one official language isn't xenophobic, it's practical. I study Spanish and Japanese but am against people moving to this country and becoming permanent residents if they refuse to even attempt to learn English; it's especially irritating when the children of immigrants don't know English, because that's just bad parenting. If I moved to China today, I'd probably never be fluent in Chinese and would frequent English-speaking grocery stores and restaurants, etc, but if I had a child in China, you can bet that they'd be masters of Cantonese and Mandarin at the appropriate age.
You always hear this "Europeans can speak French and German and Italian and Spanish along with English", but that's a problem, not a blessing. Europe should have settled on one language hundreds of years ago. Hell, they should have stuck with Latin. The United States became one nation, not 50 smaller, fighting nations with different languages like continental Europe. We need one unified language, the same way that the nations south of us have settled on either Spanish or Portuguese.

Yep. I get sick of hearing people (such as Michael Moore) trying to compare the Euros ability to speak multiple languages, with Americans knowledge of just one. Did those people, such as Moore, ever stop to consider that, if we in most of the US traveled a few hundred miles in any direction, we would NOT be in a land that speaks German or French or any other language, as would be the case in Europe? If we lived in NJ, we'd be in Pennsylvania, New York or Delaware, not Sweden.
Such people like to make the case that Americans are stupid. But, in actuality, they themselves are the stupid ones for not realizing this basic geographic/linguistic reality.
