Some Dairy Queen commercials are annoying, but the new ad for the Brownie Batter Blizzard (I think it's the June blizzard of the month) is really good. Sorry, no video yet.
Two brothers are in front of the TV doing something (maybe playing a game or something, didn't see the first ten seconds of it) when Mom walks in. There's a DQ commercial on the TV for the blizzard, with closeups of the brownie chunks and enticing voiceover description of the brownie batter, chocolate ice cream, etc. etc.
Mom is hypnotized by the ad and says, "Boys, would you like to go to Dairy Queen?" They look at each other and say "Sure..." and Mom walks out of the room like a zombie, saying "must start the car..."
Then you see the older brother hit the stop button on the DVR remote. Obviously the commercial was recorded, and they hit "Play" when they heard Mom coming. Younger brother looks at older one and says, "That's the smartest idea you ever had." As they're walking out of the room, the older brother says, "I got a cheeseburger one for Dad." End of commercial.
This is simple, clever, and very funny. The kids and mom are believeable, and incredibly, it doesn't come across as a "stupid parent" ad--more like something Wally and the Beaver would pull.
Very good ad.

I don't like any of the DQ commercials, they're annoying. This one was an exception, I thought the kids were cute and clever.

Also did you notice there wasn't any soulful music playing with a throaty voiced woman going mmm hmm or some dancing or anything denoting that it is a "black" commercial?
Nice change from the typical |

You have a pet named Elohim? LOL I have a red dachshund that wears a big Star of David because she's a kosher hot dog., but she doesn't bark with a yiddish accent. Her photo is on facebook; you'll laugh. She likes hot dogs too. She's a cannibal.

My father used to love their commercials. "We have to answer to a higher authority".

If Dairy Queen can have all this "Brownie Blizzard" stuff, why the hell can't they have chocolate ice cream? Grrrrrr....
At this point, it's just the principle of it!

They do have chocolate ice cream (?)
BTW those brownie blizzards aren't good. I had one. It tasted like brown play-doh stirred into chocolate soft-serve. Go for the heath bar version, instead. Much better. |

Not the ones where I live. Well, there was one that had a big sign in their window a few years ago "We now serve chocolate ice cream", but they've gone out of business since. None of the other ones I've been to, have chocolate. Go figure. It's an ice cream shop. They should have at least vanilla and chocolate soft-serve. Some of the other ice cream places I've been to (the ones on the East coast), in fact, even have a third soft-serve flavor, like maybe raspberry.
But, for some reason, soft-serve ice cream is scarce in California.
edit: apparently, it's hit or miss, depending on where you live maybe.

Apparently, chocolate soft-serve is the death knell for the California Ice Cream shop.
At least, the ones near you. |

This is definitely one of the few current commercials I enjoy. Can't complain about any of it! :D

I guess.
It just baffles me. It just makes no sense.
"Hmmmm...we're opening up an ice cream franchise. Now what would help it become successful? Hmmmmm. I know---we won't offer chocolate ice cream!"
