The commercial is for a car, and they ALWAYS show the car fish-tailing to a screeching halt.
This is supposed to demonstrate what exactly? I suppose this stunt is to appeal to my alpha-male side. Yeah, give me a car that spins. Preferrably spraying a fine mist from a wet road, or spewing dust in a giant cloud as I rip through the desert, destroying my clear-coat. You know what? I just don't get it. When you see a car spinning like that on the real road, you know someone is about to die, and that car is about to become a Coke can. |

The only place I've seen cars operate like that is on dirt race tracks.

What is more annoying is that they don't spin out of control, rather they spin in perfect control and stop right next to a patiently waiting woman or perfectly parallel parked in a space.

I haven't seen the movie Wanted, but in the preview I saw, somebody got picked up by a spinning-out-of-control car! Then the silliness began in full.

The best example I've seen was not an ad, but a movie: Blues Brothers 2000. Elwood Blues was always throwing that used cop car into a space three inches longer than the car, right in front of that strip club. Damned fine driving! But made me wonder how many cars they destroyed filming those stunts. |

Ah, it all makes more sense now. It wasn't an original idea. They stole it from a movie.
As is usually the case with most ad gimmicks.

I'll say it once again - that's why I watch Spanish car commercials and info-mercials. Instead of titillating you with cars zooming around, they titillate you with actual titillation (maybe that's considered wrong, but if you're not a car person to begin with, it's somehow hard to be convinced of that). If cars zooming around is meant to appeal to the alpha male in you (as Nathan puts it), then the other thing speaks for itself. But of course, in this supposedly sex-crazed country, there are really plenty of taboos (whether you call them "P.C" taboos, or something else), and that seems to be one of them. The last time I know of that a car ad used a model to sell a car, the makers were jumped on in a big way. Partly because the model was a famous social pariah (you know the one), but probably partly because it somehow just isn't done anymore to turn you on with something other than the actual car. Again, thank heaven for Spanish TV.

Ya missed those recent hip/young Amero-Japanese movies, where they 'slide & glide'?!

This means only the stupid drivers will ever buy the car.

Notice how liquor and beer ads never show someone getting blind drunk (instead, actually using disclaimers like "Drink Responsibly"), and food ads never show someone passed out from overeating, but car and truck ads are happy to show someone driving like a maniac.
