Here we show people from all walks of life, each speaking a fragment of a sentence, so that we at home can marvel at the bewildering juxtaposition of ethnic diversity and unity of purpose.
At the end of the commercial, each person in turn says only the last part of a sentence, again and again. This makes the commercial poignant. Repeating the entire last sentence one more time makes it extra poignant. Somebody somewhere thought this was cute. I'd like to put cactus quills in that guy's scrambled eggs. |

Different people repeating the same line
"That's how I knew.""That's how I knew.""That's how I knew . . . "ARGH!

Yeah, what a coincidence that all these people are giving parallel speeches! "I am an American." "I am an American..."

Note the way the camera pans horizontally, as if to make us feel we are standing in one place and slowly spinning to see each scene across the world seamlessly connected to the next, as they speak.
It makes me a smidge

This is an annoying 'artsy' production technique...though probably cheaper than putting a bunch of people together to read a line in unison. |

Seems that I am finding these threads rather late, but one that has been bugging me a LOT the last year or so, is the ad series for Visa Business credit card, both on TV, but especially on radio.
"no other card, no other card, no other card, no other card, no other card, no other card, no other card, no other card, no other card", ad infinitum for ever!

I am so glad you brought this up. I have been thinking about starting a thread, but you hit the nail on the head. These type of commercials REALLY annoy me, and apparently I'm not the only one!!
![]() Hey, I'd like to put cactus quills somewhere on the genius who thought these commercials up (just not in his scrambled eggs!!)... (just not in his scrambled eggs!!)...(just not in his scrambled eggs!!)...(just not in his scrambled eggs!!)...![]() .

Yes, I too want to be an individual, just like everyone else.
