I'm a die hard sci-fi fan, mostly Star Wars, but I hope Star Trek makes some really good movies with great props. I'm a big props builder myself. I have all kinds of lightsabers and blasters!! I love building the damned things...it's addictive as hell.
I wasn't too happy with the last ST flick, but hopefully this new one will be great!!!
So someone catch me up.....is Picard still the captain, or are they going retro? I kind of lost out on the current storylines. Been busy!! LOL

Thanks for posting that link. It looks great!
Nice thing about CGI, they didn't really have to destroy a classic Corvette to get that canyon shot. Unlike the Dukes of Hazzard that did destroy a LOT of classic Chargers. |

I'm starting to like it more, plus the new Enterprise looks great from the newly released angle. The visual effects look awesome. Really great stuff. I'm thinking this one isn't going to be another Nemesis which is a GOOD thing. It looks like San Francisco (futuristic skyline looks AWESOME!!!!)gets ATTACKED and we get to see it!!!!

The Nemesis movie was silly, but I like the design of the Enterprise-E better than the -D. I actually cheered when the 1701D was destroyed at the end of the series.

THANK YOU!!!!! I am SOOO sick of watching Hollywood destroy all those classic cars just because they think they are old junkers!!! I HATE THAT sh*t!!!! I'm hoping a lot of them are kit cars or have been fitted with replacement fenders and caps and stuff, but It's probably too much to ask!!!
Now days, if you see a cherry old car in a movie, bet your sweet ass they are gonna trash it!!!

Don't they use car shells to destroy old cars or something? AS in a car without the upholstery bare bones etc? I doubt they use a pristine car just to destroy it, they have a series of cars one for stunts, one for beauty shots,on for camera work etc, etc.

Wild Starchild....you make props way out there in TN? You should move here to Los Angeles! I would love to make prop's or work in costume, or set design - property jobs...but you gotta know someone in the Industry practically to get you in.
Also a long time Trekie...this one looks intriguing...also hope they don't mess it up...why don't they get a clue and at least give them some gusto..no wonder "The Wrath of Kahn" is everyone's favorite.
One last thing Wild...I thought they used cars that where stripped down to the bones for these shots and they rumage them up from car graveyards. Do you really think they use cars that could be salvaged and renovated? If it is I agree with you, it is a shame. I also grew up in the era of the 70's muscle cars and still love them...fancy that how many car manufactures have now try to copy the old look....sigh if they would only make a Mustang pony for me that immulates more of the 60's pony...I would buy it (a nice pink one with white interior..he he)

Same for me with the Charger. I was a half owner of a 1969 Charger in 1980, with another Marine while we were going through avionics school. Great old car! It was rather underpowered with a 318, but we had fun with it. The modern "Charger" just doesn't cut it for me. It looks like all the other bug sedans Chrysler is selling, just with a different name tag.
Now, Dodge did the new Challenger up right! Beautiful reproduction of the classic original. I'd love to get one, even with the way the price of gas is probably going to go up again. But I need a down payment on a house more than I need a new Challenger, damn it. |
