DrJimmy, I do agree with you.  As a customer, we should be treated fairly.  I do hate those commercials where everything is in its place and the whole store is clean.  Yeah everyone does have bad experiences, But everyone should walk a mile in the other persons shoes.  How would you like it, if someone came to where you work and jumped down your neck for something that was not your fault?

Life is tough all over.   If I put myself in someones shoes that is angry, than I'm giving them a free pass to treat everyone on line like pieces of sh*t.  And thats not right.  If someone came to me in my job and treated me like sh*t, and then I turned on another employee or customer because of that, I would be walked off the premises and asked not to return.  If these stores are putting people on registers that are keeping anger inside enough to take it out on the rest of the line and don't have a rational mind or the maturity to let it go once the person they had the issue is gone, then they might need to reconsider what htey have working on these lines.   Obviously what you are saying is that the clerk at the register had some sort of altercation with a customer - regardless of who was right or wrong.   What I am saying that the domino effect takes over and now we all have to put up with surly customer service rep - again, whether they were right or wrong - and now the rep has or will just about to start to cause "extra" issues with people on line because they still have a chip on their shoulder.    One incident or a price check 15 people before I get there causes their whole day to go sour, so I get a pissed off clerk.   Now the clerk has a bad rep and the 15 people "after" the original incident just add to the clerks list of who they are pissing off.  College education or just high school diploma is not the issue - the issue is "i need to let it go and focus on my job".   This is the issue I have with the clerk - they hate the world because there was a question about a price - or something didnt scan right.   There are ahole customers and ahole clerks.     But if I have a question about a price on the shelf compared to what just rung up and ask about it - now I am going to get an attitude because of that "15 people ago" customer.    the clerk may not be getting the break either, but the clerk just being plain surly to the rest of the customers just isnt right, because they dont ration out the incident and move on.  Its a complex situation like you said, put myself in their shoes.    But I refuse to.   If I applied to do the job, and I am taking a paycheck, I am supposed to help people, not yell at them.   No ones forcing them to do something they dont like.  So no, I dont want to put myself in their shoes.  Let them get over their incident like everyone else does each day at work

And by the way NO one would put them selves in my shoes on a bad day if I was surly to many people  - I'd be talked to and possibly canned.    Life doesnt work that way...

Walmart is just lying to us and thats my problem with the commericals.

by the way....you're point is its "not their fault" over whatever happened.  I notice you dont give any credence to the people who are the issue, who are surly, who are just filled with hate and attitude....    If I get charged 20 bucks extra for something and the clerk has to sigh, roll their eyes, or tell me to take it up with someone else, or won't assist me with a simple question about a credit card machine at check out - Im sorry - thats THEIR fault for not wanting to help.  Not mine.  I just walked around for 2 hours and just want to slide my card and get out of their face - but if they already have a chip on the shoulder, bad on them, not bad on me.  I wont walk in those shoes.     And if it wasn't their fault as you say, then they need to get OVER it - not wear the world on their sleeves and raising a flag to the whole line saying "im pissed dont bother talkin' to me".      You know what?  QUIT...

Kuribo: Excellent job on that ad edit! Nicely done.

My .02 on the nasty clerk/nasty customer debate: Someone pointed out about the spineless managers. In one of the Christmas threads I related my recent experience of going through our WalMart's garden/seasonal checkout line on a recent Saturday morning, and standing in a really long line. The poor checkout lady told me a lady had come through with a whole cartful of groceries because she didn't want to wait through the long grocery lines at the other end of the store. The clerk called management to send someone to open the other garden register, but they refused, said she'd have to handle it.

The sad thing was, a lot of the people in line chewed out the clerk, and in this case, it wasn't her fault.

I decided right then, I'm putting the store's number in my cell, and next time I see something stupid like that going on, I'm going to call immediately and complain to a manager. Let's all do it!!!

It's their job to know what's going on in their store and make sure customers are served. Maybe getting 20-30 calls an hour from people already in the store will wake them up. Or not, but it'll be fun for us. LOL

Dozens and dozens of threads killed.

Wait, so your fantasy is buying stuff from a mean cashier? I was under the impression you didn't like nasty cashiers. Wink

Everybody just needs to chill the f out, in general. We're all stuck on this rock together and getting all up in a hussy because of one customer or nasty cashier accomplishes nothing. Life's too short.

Oh, and for the record, there's some hotties that work at the Walmart in my town. Tongue
