I'm switching back and forth between news this morning, and literally every other commercial is a drug commercial.  There are a few others sprinkled in there - financial services and so on - but it's cancer, psoriasis, arthritis, on and f-ing on.  I haven't seen the one with the sweater yet - that is the absolute worst.
CNN:  Oh here's the psoriasis one again (it was just on msnbc).
Switched the channel to MSNBC:  One for cancer.
FOX: No commercial, scaring people about immigrants
One down to the Weather Channel:  psoriasis, and the one about heart attacks and Bayer (then one for Boost presumably to keep you alive long enough to need medicines for psoriasis, cancer and heart attacks).
I hope at some point legislation is enacted to get these drug commercials off the air.  They don't need to be advertising to the general public.

My doctor got $1852.  I wonder if that's considered a lot.  The only drugs he tries to push are generics.  And the first thing that he did when I started going to him was cut my BP medication way down.  My former doctor was a revolving door for drug reps.  It used to piss me off when he'd make me wait so that he could talk to one of those smarmy assholes.

Drug commercials in the morning get me all confused to the point of not knowing what kind of drugs I should choose to kick the day off - and all those names! I swear! Why can't they just give them nice street names that are easy to remember?Cry

The good news is a law was passed to require the prices of the drugs to be disclosed.  I think a lot of ads will disappear because they won't want to tell you that...

Is that really true about the new law?  That's awesome!  Would they have to do that on the commercials themselves or just like on print ads or if you call a toll free number for information?  I wonder how small the print will be when they show the price...

And how long the price will actually have to stay on the screen to meet the letter of the law.  I'm all for any laws that regulate or put pressure on these assholes, but they always seem to find a way around regulations.  And paying fine for them is the same as dropping a quarter in a gumball machine would be for people like me.

On the serious side:
The business of acquiring the same drugs at (often) 1/10th the price in Canada is real - getting them back across the border is a very grey area - sometimes left up to the border agents, believe it or not.
When I see my doctors up at The Den, I always get prescriptions written for both US and Canada (my doctors are in the US). If I don't like the price/co-pay, I go grab them in Ontario.

Well, no you will not. In fact, there are grass-roots groups organizing trips to Canada to purchase large volumes of insulin to help diabetics living on fixed incomes in the US, which is causing a LOT of confusion in the legal circles, right now. They are doing this as the co-pay cost of Type 1 Diabetes drugs generally eat up most of the money a person living on a fixed income receives. For once I am hoping this is a case where "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" does NOT apply. I fully support these sort of efforts against 'Big Pharma' - time to get some serious cost controls in place and save more consumers.

These never ending bastids are infuriating.  They all parrot the same crap, "ask you doctor" for this crap.  No, the doctors tell YOU what you need.  I have VHS tapes of stuff from about 10 years ago and in watching the commercials back then, this just was not done.  Now, it is every other one and it is sickening.  Why the hell do they need to advertise this, it's not like over the counter stuff.  Why not invest money in cures the damned cancers, etc.?  I have my remote with me all the time and am ALWAYS muting them or changing channels, but they are everywhere on TV.  Now, on the radio too.  WTF, stop it.  They need to be taken off the air, I can't take it anymore.

My annual military flight physicals were very thorough. I used a printout for my DOT commercial driver physical. When I was no longer on flight status I did a DOT commercial driver physical. It was a joke! If I could "fog a mirror" I would pass! The National Guard had no problem giving me an annual proper physical and printout for DOT.

Because if their drug hurts you, they can pass all the blame on to your doctor.  Just more slick lawyer K-Y to use against us...

>>My doctor got $1852.  I wonder if that's considered a lot.<<
Not that much. My mom's doctor took over 10k which is actually less than some.  Her leukemia meds were almost 100k a year retail.  Massively inflated. Thankfully she had good insurance.
I've never seen a drug commercial advertising that brand though.

I like the idea of putting the price in the ad.  Although what really needs to happen is a complete reform of the system so that companies can't inflate prices in the first place.

Here's an interesting case of inflated prices:
