...so I'm about to more of this thread since I last looked and I believe I may not be the only one who has noticed Ving Rahmes may harbor some secret internal sexual conflicts and may secretly wish to sing the Arby's Gyro Song while wearing a red & white cheerleader outfit (with red & white pom-poms).

LOLLOL

Or, with all of today's fancy devices.  Just record the part of the commercial, "I need a Hero", and play it for the person at the counter. LOL  Might make some fast food workers day!

I went to Arby's for lunch on Saturday to get their 2 for $6 Gyros.

I had the "original" style with lamb. They also had them with roast beef and maybe turkey. Not sure. They weren't bad, but nothing to rave about either. The meat didn't seem to have a lot of flavor, but there was a decent amount of it on each sandwich.

With a medium order of Curly Fries and tax, the total bill came to just under $9.

I'll stick to their roast beef next time I visit.

No offense, but I'm more inclined to trust the Lebanese guy who grew up in the Mediterranean where the meal originates from than I am you, and he says it's yee-ro.

Don't foreigners usually pronounce things with an accent?  LOLWink

In general, I opt for the Americanized pronunciation of foreign words.  It's like "burrito".  I do not roll the r's as a Hispanic person would.  I pronounce the r's the way Americans do.  Same with croissant.  I say "cruh-sahnt", not "cwa-soan"

Yeah, I'm pretty tired of the whole "Americans need to be damn near pitch-perfect if they want to use a foreign word, but non-English-speakers are free to slaughter English every which way they want and still have it called an "accent difference"" nonsense myself.

It should be a prisonable offense to make gyro commercials that play on the pronunciation of the word. It's almost criminally overused.

I went to Arby's for lunch again yesterday. Had roast beef sammidges this time.

While I was in line, the gal behind the register taking an order pronounced it "jī - rō" (as in gyroscope).

Long i long o.

I need a "jī - rō"skope.  What a cool old toy.  I love science.

Are you avoiding the drive-thru, Jimbo?  Or don't they have one?  I just picked up some good eats for us!
