There was a commercial trend that paraded ,"Send your gold to CashforGold and get paid LOTS of money!" Only complete idiots would send their GOLD to another place in another state blindly for cash!

One expose even had the CEO of CashforGold straight up directly imply he was ripping off people by giving them like $5 for their huge bundle of gold. The interviewer even pointed out how shady that really is and that he is taking advantage of people who don't know better. It's so incredibly obvious that if you are that hard up for money you should just go to your local pawn shop or jewelry store and sell your gold hand to hand.

Western Sky. They were running commercials where they said they would loan you $5,000. All you had to do was pay them back roughly $40,000! Get the eff out of here! Scam artists! If someone is so desperate for $5,000 how does WS expect them to pay back roughly $40,000? On a side note someone on YouTube said something like,"I can see someone who is out on bail and is going to go to jail in about a week anyway taking a $5,000 loan from them and living up the high life with hookers, alcohol, drugs, etc and not paying them the roughly $40,000 as they are going to be in jail anyway the next week and have nothing to lose! " LOL!

Oh yeah, I forgot about Titlemax. There were numerous complaints on Titlemax from unsatisfied customers on Consumer Complaints And Reviews.com IIRC. And who could forget the God awful Titlemax commercial with Myervick Garcia(Ugly first name for a MAN and she is a WOMAN. EEK luckily her last name is very common and she could just tell people to call her Mye(Mi E pronunciation) screeching,"Titlemax got your monay, your real monay!" And laughing obnoxiously. Pretty woman, horrible commercial.

I remember these cash for gold things. First time I seen one advertised I said something along the lines of "Tell me that is not a scam". Don't remember if it was local or national but some news station did a story on them. They had some gold appraised and then sent it in. They got significantly less than what it was worth. They called to complain and were told that the company made a mistake and that they would be sent a check for the correct value. The check they received still was nowhere near what the value truly was.

Two more I want to add first one are these pay-day advance places. The way these places hook you in is by making it a never ending cycle. You borrow $200 and have to pay back say $210.  Does not sound that bad except more than likely during the next pay-day cycle not having that $200 is going to hurt and lead to you borrowing another $200. You go that route for several months and the money adds up.

Another one are these rent-to-own rackets like Rent a Center or Aarons. I understand the idea that yes you have to pay interest but by the time all is said and done you have paid 2-3 times what said item would traditionally cost you. A few months ago my television went out and since I don't have credit I thought about going the rent to own route since credit is not required. After doing the math I discovered how much rent to own is a scam. I wound up saving over $1,000 just by saving some money up for a couple of weeks and going to Best Buy.

BTW kind of ironic that as I was typing this up, a commercial for a payday advance place came on.

Before falling for such scams, it's always good to get Miss Cleo's scoop on these things.

A worker for CashforGold said paraphrased in an article, "NEVER take the FIRST check. The FIRST check is INTENTIONALLY and INSULTINGLY low to see if you can tell you're being played. Always send the first check back and we will give you a higher amount ALL the time." Food for thought.

I remember the company that Youree(Miss Cleo birthname)was working for being in BIG trouble for false advertising as callers reported them to the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Complaints And Reviews because not only never spoke to Youree/Miss Cleo, they didn't get their "free" reading " and they were charged for WAIT time! So naturally they got furious and complained.

On another website, someone said something like,"I can't believe people fall for the TV Psychic Scams. I personally am a real Psychic and a Wiccan and I would have to actually KNOW you before I gave you Psychic reading. I can't give an anonymous voice over the phone a reading. I can't believe people believe that anonymous "Psychics" on the other side of a phone who have never seen their face ,nor know who they are at all a true reading.

I was expecting a laughing face after you said that and was surprised to see a disappointed face. You aren't wrong when you say that. An ex "Psychic" in an expose said that she had a script to follow when she was working for the company that hired Youree Dell Harris. Her job was to KEEP the gullible customer on the line for a very long time and give them false hope in order to make them spend a lot of their hard earned money. She said some of the customers valid concerns were really depressing such as,"I just got laid off from my job due to my manual position being now automated. I am the sole caretaker to elderly parents while raising three young kids on my own after a divorce. Will I be getting a new high paying job soon?"

The former "Psychic," recalled thinking, "This person doesn't need to be spending whatever money they have left from their just laid off job calling psychics, they need that money for for their FAMILY!" They are in realderp trouble! She said her bosses instructed her to brightly say stuff like, "You will be getting a high paying job tomorrow!" She said something like,"It was really messed up, I had to straight up LIE to people who were in real trouble and needed real help! I felt awful!"

The thing is that if these so-called phone psychics are supposed to know everything why do they ask for a lot of info when you call. Shouldn't they already know this if they are truly psychic?

I know around here one time a woman went to a psychic and was told that she was going to find love and all that good stuff. The woman told the psychic that said psychic was a phony and if said psychic was real she would know two things. First of all said woman was happily married and had been for a long time. Second was that said woman was actually an undercover police officer. The police officer arrested so-called psychic for fraud.

Good for that undercover Officer! :) Reminds me of the time I innocently called a Psychic when I was 12. My younger cousins were laughing in the hallway. The "Psychic" said. "I hear little kids laughing in the background. Are they yours?" I coldly answered,"No." Even at 12 I saw a red flag about this "Psychic." The "Psychic" should have KNOWN I was a young 12 year old kid myself and shouldn't have ANY kids! WTF? Besides, I EVEN sounded like a 12 year old and she should have known right off the bat that I was an under aged kid and not an adult and said something like,"Young Lady, this phone call is for adults only, we can talk in about 6 years Goodbye." She should have reported the call(My aunt was charged for the phone call and my Dad gave me a very stern talk about calling Psychics and warned me never to do it again as he could see I was an innocent 12 year old who didn't know any better. I heeded his advice and never did it again. I think my Dad may have given my aunt money to pay for that phone call).

Yes, that would have been the right call to make me pay my aunt back with my allowance. In fact, the thought of paying her back with some money from my next PAYCHECK crossed my mind as I wrote that post.

Don't forget the "telephone dating" commercials, the ones with the smoking hot chick chatting it up on the phone to equally hot looking guys, yeah for sure, a girl like that is home on a Saturday night without a date, just waiting for someone to call and start chatting lol

Those telephone dating commercials are still on! They only come on late at night, but it makes me laugh every time I see one. In the internet age, I am surprised anyone would still use that method of "meeting" people.

You are SO right that people today aren't calling chat phone lines, they are going on Tinder and Plenty O'Fish to "Meet" people. :)

I never had enough "spare" gold laying about to send in, but the first one of those gold scam-ads lit red lights in my head.

The first time I saw one of those change machines in the store, it made me think of the gold scam. But at least the change machine tells you right up front that you are going to be screwed for ten percent of the random change you pour into the hopper!

But those change machines can be interesting. I have found reject coins from more than 15 countries! Once I found three 100 Yen coins along with smaller items. Those are worth about $1 each. Most of the rejects are truly "small change", but still interesting.

Do you mean the commercial where the woman says something like," I went on vacation with the money got for selling my wedding ring from my first marriage?" I remember Youtube posters blasting the hell out of that woman. LOL. "Technically, since they are DIVORCED that's now her first husband's ring and she should have given it back to him. It's theft that she SOLD it." Another poster said something like, "She seems like a Wench and a Broad. If she were a nice woman they would still be married."(Many nice women get divorced when their husbands cheat on them, so that poster wasn't completely right)
