Robert Guillaume who portrayed Benson, the butler of a state Governor in the 70's sitcom of the same name, has died at the age of 89.
Used to watch that show all the time. RIP Mr. Guillaume |

Damn, I liked him. I heard he did voiceover work for the movie The Lion King way back in 1994 too.

Could you be thinking of Soap? That was the show that spawned not only the career of Billy Crystal, but the spinoff show Benson as well. Guillaume played Benson Dubois on both shows. |

Was it a sitcom? |

It was on Comedy Central from 1998-2000 I remember it well since I stumbled upon an old VHS tape recording of it a couple years ago. I can recall it always started with a panning night shot of the New York Skyline stopping at the (now destroyed) Twin Towers. Then the words "Sports Night" appear infront of it in white. It was a show about a fictional sports show and what goes on behind the scenes.

Kind of like a sports version of The Larry Sanders Show?

Wow, I can't believe he was 89! Robert Guillaume was a very classy actor, with a tremendous voice and perfect diction.
Rest In Eternal Peace, Robert Guillaume!
