Well, it's even weirder to me now, in that "modern' apparently has 2 different meanings for you. 2 bands from the exact same time period, and one is modern but one is not. Okay then.

I do know any country fan who heard you referring to Waylon, Willie, Kris, etc as "modern country" would think you were either joking, trolling, or completely clueless about the genre though.

I felt that way in to mid-70s when my favorite bands were beginning to suck.  I was considering listening to that jazz-fusion stuff that was gaining popularity---Chuck Mangione, Chick Corea, etc.  Then, along came punk rock.  It was a breath of fresh air to me.

That bad mid-70s era for rock, however, lasted only a few years.  This time, it seems like it's been dead for 25 years.

Here's some of that modern "pleasant 1930-40s noise" you speak of.  I think it's called electro-swing.

Hey Jimbo, you missed the original Man in Black,

Hello, I'm Johnny Cash.

P.S. There's a clue in there about my real name.  Wink

Roseanne.

I met RC and Kris Kristofferson at Woodlawn Sound Studios soon after moving back to the USofAmerico, back in the late '70's. He was polite. She was a real self-important bitch that I had happily forgotten about before reading that post.
