OuchYoung white men are SO sheltered, naïve and otherwise stupid. *I* would have gone with 'luten' - just drop the missing letter. Who needs it? Heck, I don't think I even heard of the word until I was 50...

As I said before, all the neon makes me think this was broadcast in the 1980s not the 2010s. Perhaps, it's just me!

Gluten was not an issue in the 1980's.

Nobody had ever heard of gluten or even knew what it was back then.

Maybe a handful of granola munchers and health freaks.

The granola grovelers of the '70's and '80's are the reason, I suspect. I hated them. They were the first people to abandon deodorant and toothpaste because of ingredients...so I always used to drop off anonymous 'horn of plenty' gift baskets with sanitary care products on their desks. Such an easy way to eliminate unwanted staff and purify the air.

True, true I was just basing it on appearance not the contents. It's no big deal just an observation. This is a dumbass commercial anyway. Hated it at first sight.

No explanation necessary.

Just making chit-chat.

Used to play it on the gee-tar.

I think Meryl Streep went on some anti-alar crusade back then.

How about "Gluten-FILLED Breakfast Cereal". Ya know, like the stuff people have been eating for decades and never had a problem with until like the last 7-8 years or so?

Going gluten-free is only necessary if you have celiac disease.  There is nothing wrong with eating it unless you have a gluten intolerance or sensitivity where you are having physical symptoms.  It doesn't make you any healthier to eat gluten-free products if your body handles it just fine.  It is good to have readily available options for those who have celiac disease though.  My mother had it and refused to adhere to a gluten-free diet and suffered because of it.  Cry

Making gluten-free foods the latest fad though gets on my nerves.  Angry

So if you threw a wheat roll at someone with celiac disease, would it be considered attempted murder...?  LOL  (I wouldn't doubt that some people would believe that...) LOL

Actually it could be WORSE, MrT, as celiac disease more often shows up in children.
You attempted to kill a schoolchild with a salted wheat roll. COULD have been an offspring belonging to our very own FA, and THAT is just not 'Kosher'. Means you may not only go down for ATTEMPTED MURDER, but you'll probably get BANNED FROM THE BOARD, too.

I refuse to eat GLUTEN-FREE, I eat all the peanuts I can get my hands on, I avoid "pulled pork", I insist on DEET in my bug repellent spray, Et cetera...

I refuse to follow fads. Bah, humbug!!!

So, what's your beef with pulled pork?

Are you chicken or do you find it fowl?

I love that, too.  In fact, I have one ready to go right now.  Usually, I go at 4:15 am or so, but this being the weekend, I'm going to be more leisurely about it.  Right now, I'm going to go ponder it while smoking a cigarette out front.

My problem is with the fadishness of it. Pulled Pork has existed for a VERY long time. Then, all of a sudden, it became THE IN THING, mostly pork, but other meats as well.

Now, quite a number of months later, there is hardly a mention of it anywhere. And that is just fine.

Very much the way ICE BEER was many years ago. Same sort of silly fadishness to it. Where is it now?

Overall, aside from the gratuitous cutsiness in most of it (advertising in general), I hate the way they insist on super-oversaturating the market with proprietary noise.

Yes, there's a legitimate need for gluten-free products. The problem comes in when advertisers act like 95% or more of the population has gluten intolerance, or that eating a muffin will instantly add 300lbs to your waistline.
