Once again, I'm talking about the band 'Blues Image' Are you trying to be one of my dead friends? When I ask them questions, they either have nothing to say or they're just plain & straight wrong. These are two of my dead friends and they are idiots, doncha know - it's not even Halloween, but they got their masks on...

Well, as far as the 3-chord thing goes, a lot of the bands, or front men for them, who are considered great icons of rock music were pretty minimalist too in their guitar work. Take Springsteen for example. No great chord repertoire there either. But a least Mark Farner could tear into a lead solo like a maniac. Many of his contemporaries couldn't. Ever see Tom Petty doing a lead solo? That's what he's got Mike Campbell for. |

Yes Sir! I apologize, Sir. And yes, I DO appreciate those bands much more these days. I actually caught myself racing through The Swamp at dusk with my 40oz Bud Dry while listening to 'Back In BlacK' by AC-DC the other day...

Good album. But their first one (their "Red Album") is still my favorite. That's mainly because of Inside Looking Out, which I've always loved and which I only recently found out was an Eric Burdon cover. And Mr. Limousine Driver. GFR got a bad rap from the critics back then. Too white-trashy for them, I think. |

They wore the critics' bad rap like a badge of honor.
The critics trashed them while the fans packed the sold out venues they played at and their albums flew off the shelves. I remember the double album they put out. It had one of those insert posters like the Beatles White Album. Most of what was photographed were negative reviews and trash talk about them. As a hero worshipping 14 year old, it just made me like them even more. |

I'm pretty sure their first album was "On Time"... Had some great tunes on it. Two of my favorites were this bluesy little number... And this rockin' bad boy... The "red album" was their second one and the first one I owned. I believe "Inside Looking Out" was a live version on that album. But going back through their discography, I see so many awesome songs I used to love as a kid and had forgotten about. Great band!!! |

Ha! You're right. On Time was released only a few months before the red album in 1969. I don't think Inside Looking Out was live on that album. It's hard to tell with them. There's a live version on Youtube that sounds a lot like the album version, though. |

It might have been "Heartbreaker" that was live.
I'm pretty sure there was one track that was recorded live. |

You guys are SO "3-chord A.M. Japanese Plastic Radio in a fake leather pouch"!
~~~ I was far too proud to listen to GFR or Kiss or anything bubblegum, back then...had my head up my ass, doncha know, but I had FM and stayed out late at night and wasn't a sheltered child (a virgin at 14?). Yea, I was an idiot, but I've caught up and now I'm only stupid.
^ Speaking of fake leather and old AM radios...
Anybody here remember when it was a big deal to list how many transistors were in the radio? "14 Transistor" Whew, 'cause you know a 13 transistor radio plays nothing but rap! |
