"Day...day... day..deck the hallls.  WTF!!!
I may be getting old, and I don't necessarilly rant against modernizing the classics once in a while, but couldn't they find a singer who can say deck and not turn it into "day"?
I mean really, if you just heard the "scratching " part, what do you tink she's saying?

Is she singing ♫ Day-eeeeeek... day-eeeeeek... deh-deh-deck, the halls ♫ ... ?

I think the DJ spliced the first part of "Deck" and pasted it to "eek." ... deh, eek.

Confused

I was shopping at a Bed/Bath/Beyond yesterday and they had a version of some Christmas carol on the overhead (so bad, I can't even recall which one), and I swear to the little baby Jesus that I was downright thankful when the song was finally over - it was that awful!

It sounded like a wanna-be female lounge singer trying (much too hard) to just "belt out" that tune come hell or high water!

The kind of rendition that nobody claps for at the end; they're either too STUNNED to do so, or just so god-damned thankful it's over they don't want to do anything to encourage an encore!

Jesus-f**king christ what happened to Christmas?!  AngryAngryDeadDeadDeadDead

I heard something similar on the radio a couple days ago. Some lady was doing vocal gymnastics while singing "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Which is usually a quiet nice song. For crying out loud lady it's a song. Just sing it no need to blow people away!

This has been driving me crazy recently. It sounds exactly like "daek the halls" to me. I wouldn't even notice it, were it not repeated 20 times, which seems to highlight the singer's 1950's-American accent, or whatever it's supposed to be (if I had to guess, it's a modern recording attempting to sound like a vintage Xmas record being sampled). It becomes insanely grating after hearing it enough times.

Making hip-hop "beats" that incorporate cheesy vintage Christmas record samples is the epitome of cynical commercialism and triteness. But, forgetting all that, how could the producer(s) be working on this sh*tty track and not hear how annoying it sounds? DAEK! DAEK! DAE-DAE-DAEK THE HALLS!

I'm guessing 1). The whole things was done in such a hurried, careless manner that they couldn't be bothered to record additional takes (assuming the female voice is a modern recording imitating a vintage one) and/or 2). The whole thing is typical, emotionless and disposable ad music garbage, and they probably didn't care how annoying it sounded, or perhaps even thought it was a good thing. Because "then they'll constantly be thinking of our product!" And that's good for business, if you base everything on speadsheets, which is the biggest problem with ad execs. They can't relate to real people.

They just base everything on statistics and analyses and how to best "keep people thinking about our products", since we're all apparently incredibly dumb and can be brainwashed by annoying jingles to shell out for name brand products. Honestly, I don't even recall advertisements when I am shopping. I buy what I can afford. Price is the main factor in 90% of what I buy. I don't just go for the first thing that pops into my head because of an annoying commercial. And when ads do make me want to buy something, it's because it looks or sounds appealing, not because they used an annoying hook or gimmick. All most commercials do is annoy people, and ad execs are too clueless and out of touch with reality to recognize that.

I can't believe I even typed all of this. I never intended to make such a long-winded post based on one crappy commercial. It isn't even worth so much anger. It's just another piece of soon-to-be-forgotten, throwaway holiday advert trash.

In fairness, they've been doing that since (approximately) the late 1800's/early 1900's (See: Luigi Russolo). And then there's people like Merzbow.

I'd rather listen to that stuff than this plastic junk-music, to be completely honest. At least (literal) noise has the benefit of being able to drown out this commercial. Every time this ad comes up, I recommend pulling up Pulse Demon on youtube. You'll be amazed by it's efficacy!

I've been purposely avoiding this thread because I didn't need another mental mind-bender...but, being 'weak', I failed to 'just say no' and then watched the commercial. Yes, I did another commercial..."...daayyyeek...dayek". Unhappy I think I've grown some ears and now I wish my parents had insurance because I need to call the addiction hotline and get treatment

One of the WORST commercials of the year, and undisputedly the WORST song/Carol I've ever heard...
When a true genius enters the world, you will know him by this sign; all the dunces will be in confederacy against him....

I get somewhat upset when they do that to our national anthem.

They're still playing this dreadful dreck every hour or so.  Christmas is over,  but I guess they are trying to capitalize on the post-holiday shopping crowd.  It's such an assault on the ears that at this point, we just have to laugh at it when the mute button isn't immediately at hand.  It lends itself to a Porky Pig impression:  "Day...duhduhduh Day-yuh, be-wee da-wee da-wee that's all folks!"

I never even saw this commercial until I read this thread - then I started seeing it on the idiot box. Now it is on a few times an hour.
You win, Acura - I'll avoid your cars forever.
