Sometimes I hear something that makes me stop dead still in my tracks and say, "Did I just see/hear what I think I did???!!!" Yesterday one such thing happened, and I litterally could NOT believe the amount of STU-FUCCKING-PIDITY I was actually hearing. I stopped what I was doing and rewound the DVR to make sure I wasn't hearing things. I was sooo overtaken that I wrote it all down. This is more or less verbatim of what the ad said:

Ode to the Subway $5.00 footlong.
High five Abe Lincoln and choose from one of eight tasty YUM-ROCKETS for a five spot with the new Subway everyday value menu. Only five dollars. Only at Subway.

High five Abe Lincoln????
YUM-ROCKETS???? YUM-ROCKETS???? ...........................REALLY!!??!!

You know, some of the SHEEIT these Ad-iots come up with just make me want to friggin scream!! Have any of you guys seen this stupid assed thing yet???

AW DAMN!!!! Wild Shot the friggin TV again!!!

Nice. Sounds like Subway is attempting its own form of Jive.

Yeah, but isnt there a school of thought that says anything that conjures up sexual imagery is sure to make your product sell better?

Pornography and advertising are simply two slightly different points at the same end of a spectrum.

One of them, either Subway or Quiznos, now talks about a "ginormous" something:  sandwich, soda, or side.  I refuse to buy anything from any company that uses "ginormous" in their ad.  EVER.

I've noticed a bad trend with commercials that make up their own words. I recall "Supureb" in a salad dressing commercial.

While I enjoy "gi-normous," when used accurately LOL, "supureb" gets on my last nerve.

It's probably the most smug word to ever have been invented.
Let's try not to be boring, mkay?

The thing that has really started to get on my last nerve is that hideous song...

5 dollar...
5 dollar...
5 dollar foot loooong

OMG!!!  That sh*t sticks in my head for days and then as soon as it's gone that f**king commercial comes on AGAIN.

The latest one I have seen is the one where every one is signing a hand with all 5 fingers and then motioning what a foot long is with 2 hands stretched out to about a foot of length in between them.  One is a gorilla (or rather a guy in a gorilla costume) and another with a beauty queen doin the same retarded moves.  I don't get it.  It's just stupid.

GRRRRRRR!  That song though....I just can't take it ANYMORE!!!!!!

My son Blaine was 17 and murdered working at a subway in 2001. I will NEVER watch another commercial from them!

Shocked Wow... that's really awful. Cry I know that nothing can ease your pain, but I'm so sorry that this happened to you and your family.

Welcome to the forum, BTW

What a beautiful memorial page.

He looked like such a sweet little boy - who'd grown into a hard working young man.

It's a shameful loss, that makes no sense.  He's in a better place, and you'll see him again.

'Scuse me while I go hug my kid....
Let's try not to be boring, mkay?

What a terrible story, RaiderHater.  I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine how awful it is to lose a child.

Welcome to CIH.

I thought "yum rocket" was clever the first time I heard it.  Now they've used it in additional commercials and it's lost its novelty. :\

According to the ads, the $5 footlong campaign started out as a limited-time promotion. After a few months, Subway started advertising that it was such a tremendous hit, they made it permanent.

Well, maybe I'm too skeptical, but the last couple times I was in Subway, I noticed that two off our favorite footlongs, which were substantially less than five dollars during the original promo (veggie delite and cold cut combo, 3.99 and 4.79 in my area, respectively), are now only $5.

Several other footlongs that you could get early on for $5 are substantially more. This isn't exactly bait-and-switch, but it feels a lot like it.

Thanks, Subway! What a pal.
