When we were kids it was Ex-Lax in candy wrappers and razor blades in apples. I don't think that much trick or treating goes on anymore anyway. I've never seen a single one in my neighborhood in the 20+ years I've lived here. |

And the razor blade thing never even happened. Wikipedia has a whole page called Poisoned Candy Myths. The Ex-Lax thing did happen, though---once, in 1959. That's in the Wiki page, too. |

Well, I will still go to Sam's Club and pick up a couple of 50 lb. bags of Halloween candy, eat most of it myself and return to Sam's Club to buy another 50 lb. bag of candy for the 10 children in my neighborhood!

Personally, I'd never rely on Wiipedia for something like that. To say it "never happened" assumes they have some way of knowing everything that has ever happened to everyone throughout modern history, including things that were never reported in the news. When you think of all the hundreds of millions of people who've lived and died in the US just in the last century alone, the statistical possibilities of such things having happened are pretty fair. So some kid in Bumleg, Iowa or Stubtoe, Wyoming bites into a Halloween treat and cuts his lip on a sharp object, maybe a razorblade or a sharp piece of wire or a piece of metal, back in the 1960's or 70's when everything wasn't fodder for the local news vampires and it gets reported to the police who investigate it but never make an arrest.... how would wikipedia know about it today? Long story short (or even longer, actually).... coulda happened but we'll never know for sure. |

So...monsters under the bed. Yeah, it could've happened. But it seems urban legends are all we really have. People have researched and written books about these myths. You'd think if this stuff was happening, we'd have at least a few substantiated reports. I actually liked the rumors. They put the trick in "trick or treat". Until then, all I had to add was "trick or treat, smell my feet". |

There's also "Trick or treat, eat my meat", which I don't think I ever actually said to the candy-givers on Halloween. |

Only 3 kids showed up in 5 years, so I quit participating. I light up a terracotta pumpkin in the back yard on Halloween, just for me...

I put up Halloween decorations both inside and outside, but since no kids trick or treat around here anyway, I don't hand out candy.
I wish I could because it would be a total blast to dress up as Frankenstein or an evil monk and mess with the kids. I meant mess with them mentally, not the other way, you perverts. |

I didn't know I had those emojis until I went searching. But I now know I have an alternative to Pornhub on Saturday nights. |

In the AM, before work, I have on the Channel 2 news. When I come home and put the TV back on, I see this guy flanked by the other ladies of The Talk. Now I'm also seeing him in a commercial for a new Love Boat. He kinda creeps me out. |

BTW, in this forum, you can enlarge their size using the text size feature. The forum software recognizes them just like ASCII characters and text. Copy and paste your emojis into the text size box which you've selected for any available text size, click OK and you've got emojis as big as you can enlarge any text. 🤠 = size 6. |

Okay. I tried that. A little bigger, I guess. I used size 5. Also, I had to type in the codes, as I couldn't copy/paste the emojis. |

You put the emoji into the text panel first, then copy paste it into the text size box.

It worked this time. With a phone, I tap on that line and my keyboard pops up. In the keyboard are icons that open up pages of emojis. Hundreds to choose from. I tap the ones I want, and they appear on that line. |

His name is Jerry O'Connell, he's an actor, cohost of the Talk, and hosts a game show based on Pictionary that debuted a few weeks ago.

Shorts? Interesting unless if it's set in a tropical setting or tropical-themed.

He looks like the guy who played Sheldon's brother on The Big Bang Theory.
Now I have to Google him to see if I am right! |

Stand By Me was based on 1/4 of a Stephen King novel called The Four Seasons.
There were four unrelated short stories each one named for a season. I think the movie was based on the Autumn section. Maybe Summer. Anyway, when the movie first came out, they didn't publicize the Stephen King connection. I had recently read the book, maybe a year or two earlier. As the movie progressed, I was very puzzled as to why I felt like I had seen it before and why I seemed to instinctively know everything that was going to happen next. The movie was as close to the book as any movie I had ever seen. Practically word for word. I was kind of puzzled about it for a good while Anyway, after some time had passed, I either figured it out on my own, or heard somewhere else that the movie was based on that book which I had read. So that's my off topic two cents. |
