Most normal people don't do that when using mouthwash... but sometimes I do if the mouthwash has alcohol in it...and those "less intense" varieties are a lie! |

So it isn't just me! I've debated this online before. I thought I was the only one who couldn't stomach that (as you can imagine, I was usually on the losing end of that debate.) It's a major annoyance of mine when commercials and tv shows incorporate frothy toothbrushing and spitting into a scene. In fact, ESPECIALLY on TV shows, when people have full conversations while brushing. Stop talking for 30 seconds while you brush! It IS a gross thing to watch.

That one's actually for a toothpaste but it's equally as ridiculous. Especially with the OBVIOUSLY magnified sound of her huge squeaky clean, abnormally white chicklets! I personally can't stand watching anyone brushing. It makes me sick. http://forums.commercialsihate.com/search_results_posts.asp?SearchID=20080831030155&KW=squeaky+clean+teeth

Anyway, I also hate the other mouthwash commercial. I forgot what it's for, but the girl says "I'm testing to see if this really works!" and the next day rubs her teeth and says "Hear that? It's squeaky clean!" Because everybody rubs their teeth for no reason. |

I hate ythose f**king ads. It looks like they chose the people in those ads based on how odd their mouths look.
Every one of them has some weird characteristic about their mouth which they exaggerate even more while swishing the mouthwash around or right after spitting it out, which of course they don't show.
I wish they'd show that.

Oh, how I ever agree! But not so much the "seeing down the throat." Rather, I can't stand it when people yawn LOUDLY multiple times. No matter how bad you have the yawn, the audible portion of a yawn IS controllable, it just is (I'm not talking the air intake and release, but rather when a loud groan is included.) It wouldn't irritate me so bad if it WASN'T controllable, but because it is, it just seems rude.

You know what really gets me about this commercial, for whatever reason? "So rinse under the stars!"
What the hell does that even mean? How about rinsing under the ceiling in my bathroom? |

Last I heard about 21.7%. It's very popular with hobos who play George Thorogood songs on the harmonica in boxcars.

The Listerine commercial that starts with the guy letting out a completely-unnecessary tonsil-baring yawn drives me NUTS, as well!

whenever I yawn i think it's rude so after impulsively opening my mouth wide I try to cover it up so no one has to look down my throat.

I have always hated these commercials because the entire premise is keeping the stuff in your mouth so as to recieve the full benefit, and it's so obvious they have nothing in thier mouths but puffy cheeks.

Yeah, you can get drunk on mouthwash. There was once an episode of the show "Intervention" where a woman was drinking the stuff constantly, but other than the fact that it tastes bad, it's got other stuff in it that make it even worse for you than consumable liquor.
I hate those commercials too. It's obvious they have nothing in their mouths - similar to the commercials where people are drinking a can of something - it's obvious that there is nothing in them and they are pretending to drink and swallow. |

I don't know about that but I do know for a fact that you can have some serious legal problems if you get pulled over and have to do a breathalizer and you've swigged Listerine recently. Although I did date a lawyer once and I asked him about it...he confirmed that Listerine will cause your breathalizer test to skyrocket but he also said that the numbers would be SO HIGH that it would clearly be a non-drunk factor (he pretty much told me that it would be physically obvious if you were as drunk as the breathalizer rating, or something like that.) He also told me that you can get a blood alcohol test or another breathalizer at the police station (I think) and by then the numbers would have leveled off (but that doesn't hide being truly drunk, because THOSE numbers would stay high...a mouth rinse would wash away after a little while but over the limit drunkeness would not.)
Sorry that was so cryptic. He often babble a lot and was hard to follow, so I tuned him out a lot. |

I wonder what the alcoholic % of Listerine is...and is it enough to make one drunk. The people in the Listerine ad look like they drank the entire bottle.

These are just like that overacting Obama looking jackass in the Extra sugar free gum commercials dancing around and chewing his gum like a cow chewing on it's cud. it's like the director of these commercials think we the viewers are so god damn stupid we can't tell somebody's chewing gum or using mouthwash unless they ham the hell out of it. Also where does beiung a guy who directs health product commercials fit in the heirarchy of things? Obviously he's far below Steven Spielberg but where exactly is he in the pecking order? Is he above the guy who directs amateur scheiss porns or below him? And does he wear that zany get-up with the kneehigh boots, the beret, scarf, and the cheesy German accent?

Someone beat me to it! I was going to post about this ad too. My reasons for disliking it are the same as you all, which is that the people going " ahhhhhh!" and flashing their impossibly perfect, white teeth bothers me. Who in the hell actually does that anyway?

I hate closeup bizarre facial expressions in commercials; I'm always embarrassed for the actors. I'd never agree to look like a complete moron on screen.
Plus, all this commercial does is reinforce the reality that Listerine is extremely painful to use. I won't, in fact. I use ACT; same effect, absolutely no discomfort.

HAHA GOD I hate that guy at the end. His weird bug eyed "HOOooo!" exhale with that face, which you pin pointed perfectly. I imitate that to my wife when that stupid ad comes on. She gets mad heh. |
