It is a cool ad, but it's a bit weird to see Bob Dylan doing commercials, as he was definitely anti-establishment back in the day.

Commercials are awesome, except the annoying ones.

Dylan did a commercial for the Cadillac Escalade a few years ago. In fact, in that one, he appeared actually driving the gas-guzzler. And a few years before that, he and his music were featured in a Victoria's Secret commercial.
Bob Dylan might've had the anti-establishment persona, but he was always financially- and commercially-minded. He didn't become successful magically. The anti-establishment thing back in the 60s and 70s was a big selling point, and Dylan knew it. In fact, I think it fueled his "conversion" to electric at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. He knew folk music was dying out, and he'd always preferred rock and roll, anyway. |

That & folk music was just part of his Woodie Guthrie phase.
Once that got him wealthy & famous, he no longer needed to pretend & switched to rock music which he had started out playing as a kid. Apparently he was a real asshole back then, too. Ground up Phil Ochs pretty good. Some think Positively 4th St was about Ochs. |

People try to figure out the story behind the songs, and no one ever knows for sure. Maybe that's the beauty of it. Carly Simon's You're So Vain is a great example. By the time we ever find out who she was singing about, anyone who ever cared, will be gone. The Phil Ochs version works for me. He's dead, and Dylan's not talking, so pretty soon, it'll all be speculation, anyway. |

Why the Dylan ad was disturbing
"So it's silly for some people to be talking about how Dylan "sold out" by making this commercial. He didn't. He is where he's long been on this issue. It's just that Chrysler finally caught up to him."

No secret here.

What's funny is that so many American cars aren't even built in the US. My last Chrysler, a 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4, was built in Mexico. The Chrysler 300 is built in Canada with some of the engine options coming from Mexico. It's a global market, and trying to poopoo on imported cars while they outsource their work to other countries is hilarious to me.
