No Progressive commercial has had me scrambling for the Mute button faster than this new one. Chrissie Hynde must be pretty desperate for money these days. The singing is fair enough but the commercial itself is stupid.
EDIT: I tried posting a YouTube link but it didn't seem to work. Apparently you have to go on Progressive's YT channel to watch this one. |

I haven't seen the commercial in question, but why am I getting the feeling ole Flo isn't belting out:
"Not me baby, I'm too precious so f**k off!"

Here it is on ispot:
I saw it for the first time on TV yesterday evening .... never again. Just like that damn "Ready to Bundle!" Progressive ad, when I see it come on it will be muted ASAP. I used to have a mental block when it came to Flo after building up sort of an immunity to her commercials, but Progressive's been making it harder and harder to do with their recent ads. |

Wasn't the video for "Stand By You" basically about a heroin addict trying to kick the habit?

I hope I never ever see it again, I saw it only TWICE on TV and thankfully it was muted both times. I've seen it un-muted here on this site and I wish I never listened to it.

Two of the original members of the band did die of drug overdoses. The original drummer left for a while but now he's back, and he and Chrissie are the only two original members left. Chrissie has been the band's only constant. I love her voice and I love "I'll Stand By You"... the original version that is. (Cover versions by Carrie Underwood and the cast of "Glee" didn't do it for me.) |

It's not the first time either. She's sung already in at least one radio spot. Her voice actually isn't that bad... if only she would use it for the powers of good. (And I don't mean a "Flo Sings!" album. Oops, I probably shouldn't have mentioned that... I hope the Progressive folks don't read this thread...) |

UGH! Of all the songs out there, why'd they have to sing that one? I've always hated that song and now I hate it even more. Instant mute for this one.

OH.MY.GOD. I am so glad someone started this thread, because I was going to. Last night I this abominable POS came on at least 20 times, no exaggeration. Sometimes I can't get to the remote fast enough, and I am forced to hear the 'Yeeeeah!' After she sings. this commercial!!!

The "Yeaaaah" at the end makes it worse!

I wonder if she even owns the rights to it anymore. My favorite line from "Middle of the Road" is "I can't get from the cab to the curb without some little jerk on my back." Great rock-n-roll song. But unfortunately, as Greg Kihn said....they don't write 'em like that anymore. |

I actually remember where I was when I first heard the Pretenders. I was with my father and bro turning left onto Jordan Road from Inman Avenue when Stop Your Sobbing came on the radio.

So, were you going this way... or this way? I love Google maps!!! The first Pretenders song I heard was "Brass in Pocket" I think I was in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut on Merritt Island where I worked at the time. |

The second one, where that station wagon is turning.
That store on the left used be Johnny's Hardware. Next to it was our liquor store, where I used to buy alcohol at the age of 16.
Funny how some songs seep into our consciousness, while others leave an indelible print the first time we hear them.

The only song I can remember the first time I heard it is Elton John's Honky Cat. I was in bed one night listening to my little Toshiba transistor (or "tramp's sister" as Dennis the Menace called them) radio & thinking how I was hearing something rather different & interesting. Musta been about 13. Re: the pics^^ I will Google Map street view something at the drop of a hat. Give me any excuse & I'll do it. I love to see what somebody else saw years ago & hundreds or thousands of miles away from where I was at that time. Similarly, I love to show other people what I was seeing at a particular time. Case in point, the street view pic I posted in the cars/pedestrians thread, with the story about getting hit by a car on my bicycle back in 1973 when I was about 15. Still looks almost the same there. |

LOL, I always thought the lyric "I got a kid, I'm 33" was "I gotta get a .33." I guess both kind of make sense. |
