I'm not a jock so I may be showing ignorance here but, is the customer a pro wrestler or something? He also talks like he's trying to imitate Stephen Segal (why, I don't know). The annoyance factor comes from the wife/girlfriend...she gives the guy a mean look when he admits he checked out girls at a Journey concert. In 1983! She gets upset because he was interested in girls almost 30 years ago?! I'd be more upset and disturbed if my man HADN'T been interested in girls 30 years ago! The song-lyric banter between the customer and agent was pretty funny until the customer has to state, "We just had ourselves a little Journey moment there." DUH! Of COURSE we all know that! I hate commercials that assume we are stupid!

I'm sick and tired of the band Journey. They seem to be having a resurgence lately, with "Glee," and Randy Jackson on "American Idol" always mentioning he used to tour with them. Steve Perry isn't even with the group anymore, they got some Asian dude who sounds like him.

To me, they were always the worst of 70s rock. But their generic sound and their screaming style seems to go well with the Glee and American Idol crowd.

Look, I can't say Journey is my favorite band ever, but I saw them in Cleveland in 1980 and they were absolutely fantastic. Honestly, it was the best concert I ever saw.
As for the commercial, I agree, it's funny until they have to drive the "Journey moment" home.

Journey is not my alltime favorite band but I have always liked them. My former neighbor is the current drummer for Journey and the former drummer for Ozzy Osbourne and Bad English. I have had many Journey moments when Deen and/or his son Kyle were practicing in the garage. Following some complaints (a couple from me) Deen spent some money and soundproofed the garage. Thank you Deen. He was always a very good neighbor. Being a "car guy" I was always intrigued to see what kind of exotic car he would come home with next. I agree that checking out the girls in 1983 is a "non-issue". If wife or husband cannot handle what happened before they met they should go directly to divorce court!

"Any way you want it."
"That's the way I need it." Doesn't that sound mildly pornographic? |

I like this one, for the most immature reason ever. Anything related to Journey makes me think of Family Guy and a very drunk Peter.

Hey, I resemble that remark. I'm no Journey fan for sure. I remember hating that song when my little brother listened to it in high school.
However, I am an Idol fan, in part. One comment I have about the singing and songs on Idol is this. To many of the songs they sing don't have any sort of catchy tune. A tune that sticks in your head even if you heard it on a toy piano. Most of the songs have really boring melodies.
The singers it seems are simply doing vocal gymnastics in an effort to impress the judges and even if the song has a good one, NEVER stick to the melody of the songs, making a recognizable song unrecognizable.

Hey MrCleveland... Yes, I was born and raised on the East Side (Mentor, Willoughby). Went to the Coliseum (many, many times), Cleveland Agora, Blossom, etc... The time I saw Journey, I was going into the Army in a month (June 1980). I was a member of the Belkin Concert Club and I told them it was my last concert. They sent me front row center, sold out...Journey and The Babys.

Honestly, the fact that they've whored themselves out to so many commercials is the reason I can't stand Journey anymore. It's one thing to let a commercial or TV show use your music, but they are truly overexposed.
Yeah, it's great that they've created a whole new generation of fans, but if I never hear "Don't Stop Believin' " or "Any Way You Want It" ever again, I'll be just fine. As for the wife, I've never understood why commercials or TV shows make spouses so jealous about an ex from years ago, esp. if it was before they came into the picture. Such a dumb cliche IMO. |

What's terrible about this commercial is the horrendous snarky fast-talking that ad wizards today seem to think is hip and edgy. It feels like I'm watching an episode of the Gilmore Girls, where everyone talks at a mile a minute.

This commercial cracks me up because I actually did see Journey in Fresno in '83 (I was 8). It may have been crawling with chicks, but they were fat, sweaty, drunk, and probably not wearing enough clothes. Fresno women on a hot day in the dirt & grass of the local football stadium. Ick.

This dude came out of nowhere and now he's in a few ads. He just looks so out of place....like he needs to be in a P90X commercial or something. Too much like a roided out Steven Segal.
"Saw them in 83, place was crawling with chicks" GROAN. Is this really how men talk to each other?

I think they're trying to show him going back in time in his head, that it's the way single guys talked to each other in 1983 when they were young and trying to pick up girls. Her look is meant to bring him back to the present. I actually liked one Journey song for about a year, but only because it was the finale song on my favorite all-time show, the Sopranos. |

Only "Men" who actually thought 'Journey' was a "cool" band and wanted to jump on the 'GurlyzBop-Ownleee!!!' bandwagon.
They weren't really men, but don't tell them now, no matter how " 'roided-out" they are.
And currently stuck with their lil'insecure wives who wished they had a 'prenup' agreement and could take it all.
For some of us ('in the know');
They are now 'financial food' and we need them for our own selfish purposes.
Yea.
Sure.
They were there.
(yea, o.k., fine - I absolutely HATED 'Journey' ...and, well, this commercial just reminds me of why)

I was watching an episode of "Metal Evolution" on VH1 Classic, about the glam metal music of the 80s. Apparently, a lot of those bands hated doing the girl-friendly stuff, but their record labels made them do it 'cause it increased their sales substantially.
