I pay $39.99 a month for Cox Communications High Speed Internet. This doesn't sound like an improvement. Who is even still talking about DSL?
I found this on the Internet: Is DSL better than cable Internet? DSL vs Cable Raw Speed: Advantage Cable. In terms of theoretical peak performance, cable modem runs faster than DSL. Cable technology supports approximately 30 Mbps of bandwidth, whereas most forms of DSL cannot reach 10 Mbps.Oct 5, 2016 Broadband Internet Speed Comparison: DSL vs. Cable - Lifewire https://www.lifewire.com/dsl-vs-cable-broadband-internet-speed-comparison-817539 |

Spectrum charges us 68 bucks a month for 60 Mbps, it is very fast and I don't often have any problems.

My aunt's family used to have Wildblue (DishNet). It was OK but often slow (and sometimes PAINFULLY slow). They now just use their phones for internet.
I know the dishes have improved somewhat. When DirecWay started, the speeds were dial-up fast. But what are you going to do when you live 60 miles from a major city, out in the boondocks where no Internet line has gone before? The nearest public library is the next option (hit or miss internet depending on the library).

Well...I am one who prefers fibr or wired solutions when it comes to ISP connectivity to that big ol'goofy web.
In fact, wireless? only used between router and local devices - but hooking up with any satellite providers? Not for me, especially if located in areas subject to extreme weather changes,

And now we have another word misspelled on purpose to be cute or trendy. Exede instead of Exceed.

Sometimes you just can't get around 'Mother Nature', who *just happens* to exist between You and that satellite your ISP uses. Once upon a time in the mid-1980's, I tried to construct a recoverable satellite network between Tampa and Los Angeles. It worked when the Big Guy Above forgot about clouds and maybe took a few days in Maui for fun, but when Tampa was like that stormy planet in 'Alien 2' and LA was like Krypton exploding (in 'Man of Steel'), it didn't work worth a damn. In fact it sucked. |
