Has anyone else noticed that probably 90% of the "medication" commercials star women?
I guess men these days are totally healthy and women are the walking dead |

Maybe soon, they'll start using male-to-female transgenders to advertise prostate meds and procedures. I mean, they still retain their prostates, right? |

I'm gay. (I've mentioned that before out here.) I don't lisp, and I don't say "fabulous" in a campy way. Practically all the gay men I know are similar. I know that most of the posts out here are insults in one way or another, but I'd appreciate not playing into those particular stereotypes. Thank you. |

Unfortunately, there are a lot of gay men who DO perpetuate that stereotype and the media, commercials included, love to join in that perpetuating. If I were gay and I didn't act that way and didn't appreciate the stereotype, I'd be more pissed off at the two aforementioned groups than I would be at straight people who see and believe them. I think straight acting gay men should unite into some sort of national group or coalition to draw awareness to it and to create separation between yourselves and the swishy, "fabulous" types. They are the ones who straight people find so annoying. |

I think sometimes, the swishy gays are that way because it's easier. I imagine it's harder for a gay guy to act like any other guy because then, they're constantly having to "come out" to people (who assume they're straight). If you gay it up, those situations cease. There's this gay guy at work, 60+ y/o, who prances around, singing show tunes and pretending he's Bette Davis among many other things. One day he was going to everyone in the kunchroom saying he's Aurora Borealis. What? You're the Northern Lights? Anyway, there's no question about this guy's sexuality. |

I worked for a florist back in 00 - 01 as a delivery driver.
The owner was gay as were all his male floral designers. They didn't exactly act like "regular Joes" but they understood decorum. At one point, he hired a young gay kid who had done some floral design at Disney World. Nice kid, but he really put on the flaming gay act hard. Similar to your guy. None of them liked him at all. I think he embarrassed them. Funny thing was, I as the only straight guy there, was the only one who didn't dislike him. He lasted about two or three weeks then he was fired. |

I don't lisp, say, "fabulous" in that stereotypical "gay" manner, and I don't have a perpetually "broken wrist" either. By looking at and listening to me, you'd never guess in a million years that I'm a fag. ![]() The majority of gay men that I've encountered over the years (I used to tend bar at a gay bar) act stereotypically gay -- some of them are real flamers!!!

My experience is that I used to see much more of that when I was growing up in the 70's/80's and becoming aware of my own sexuality. That was a time when it was much harder to truly be openly gay, and I think a lot of gay men felt that "flaming it up" was a way to identify to other gay men. I personally don't see nearly as much of that as I used to. But of course it may depend on where we all grew up, etc (for me, it was the suburbs). I'm certainly not saying that no gay men act swishy anymore, whether as an affectation or because that's how they genuinely are - but I just wish the stereotyping wasn't still so strong. BTW - I work in musical theatre - but I have terrible fashion sense. :-)
