Any corporate bigwig that gets millions for being incompetent can go to a very dark and fiery place IMO...

I think that they should have to pay that money back.  Hell, companies  should not get billions for their f**k-ups.  Instead, spend that money to get the country out of debt.

Everyone keeps saying that AIG is too big to fail. Maybe that's you're clue right there! My solution, break it up! We've allowed these companies to conglomerate into giant dinosaurs that are too big to be innovative and wieldly, too big to allow new upstarts (automotive industry), and too big too fail.

Personally I have no problem with giving these companies loans as long as there is equal collateral (say some of it tied to some of the execs own personal holdings). As long as they pay it back they could give themselves bonuses all the live long day. But if not, well say goodbye to your fortunes.

Love the "top talent demands top pay" remark. Talent to run their business into the ground, selfish asses. This should probably be moved to the off topic section.

now it looks like AIG is suing the same government that handed them the bailout!

AIG is like Enron.  Except that it had "friends" in gov't to throw money at it....

I beg to differ. The corporations are not to blame for this, it's the democratic party.

That's a thought worth sleeping on. Without looking into the details too deeply (too tired; been up all night) it seems it has happened before with the Bell Telephone split, many years ago.

From what I've been reading, all the various actual "insurance" companies that AIG holds are doing fine, it is only the hedge fund, AIG Financial Products division that was in trouble, because they were covering both sides of every bet! Break the real actual insurance companies off as the separate companies they were before AIG holding company bought them up, and send AIG FP to bankruptcy court, where it belongs.

As to the bonuses, that is the fault of the ObamaWacko Treasury department, putting pressure on their tame lapdog Chris DoddDead, to put the bonuses into the SpendulusPig/Porkulus bill. The bonuses were not there to begin with. Now, creating a special bill to punish the people who legally received their contracted bonuses is what is know of as a "Bill of Attainder", and those are specifically banned in the US Constitution, in the same paragraph as the proscription on Ex Post Facto laws. They can't do it. But they will, whether unConstitutional or not. Yet another example of "change you can believe in", doncha know?Pinch

Lazy kids also grow up to either become democrats, or vote for them.

.....and the AIG story still continues....

I agree with the fact that when a business gets too big, it's belly get's too big, it can't reach down to it's feet, nor see them.  So they don't know what's happening in all areas of the business, too many levels of management get the real issues clouded.  Government oversight and auditors and regulations need to be in place.  And perhaps the Auditors need to be audited as well, to make sure they are going to do the task RIGHT!
