So, that's why the test is Microsoft-oriented. Secondly, I don't know what you're talking about, but the MCSE requires you to take and pass SEVEN exams to get the certification (including two exams where you have to pick a specialty) whereas most CompTIA exams are shorter and you don't need to pass as many (The A+ certification only requires you to pass two multiple choice tests).

CompTIA certifications aren't specific enough most of the time to get higher-paying jobs, whereas, if you have an MCSE certification, you're pretty much guaranteed a job in the IT field of your choice.

I guess this is where my lack of insight into the IT field works against me- I understood the part you said, about being Microsoft specific, but what I don't understand is how a $60,000 course that takes six months to complete can always work out the way they advertise? I know people spend a lot more on a college education to get jobs that pay similar, and the other drawback being that it takes longer. But most people who enroll in a four year university complete their programs, even if it takes more than four years.

So, one of the things I question is their rate of completion. What exactly is the "drop-out" rate? It's nice to brag that 98% of your graduates have job offers within a month of graduation, but what is the graduation rate vs. initial enrollment? And if one fails to complete, do they get any of their money back? In college, if you drop out you simply don't pay for upcoming classes. If you drop out of CT.com, they won't answer what happens to the remainder of your money.

And I really hate the poor acting.

The complete vagueness of these commercials is what my problem is, and I suspect my trepidation is founded somewhere in truth. If it sounds too good...

Radio Ads : Debt Relief Ads

    Author: RichardCranium
Subject: Debt Relief Ads
Posted: 20 Nov 2009 at 9:21pm

No, no, no Duf- there you go introducing that foreign concept of "rational thinking" again! We're supposed to believe they have our better interests in mind with no questions asked! Especially when some "every guy" comes on our TVs with a concerned look on his face and wearing blue jeans, a shirt with no tie and an open collar and a blazer- you can trust him, right? He looks like your neighbor- if your neighbor was a bad actor.

I think what you pointed out (the predatory nature of these commercials, preying on the "weakest" among us) is what pisses me off the most about these ads.

What spooks me out is that the reason why we hear those ads is because we fall into some kind of demographic that shares characteristics with this target audience...

I dunno- I think it's more of the "shotgun technique" of advertising. They know the same radio station you can listen to in Hollywood can be heard in Watts, so they advertise. It's sort of like the billboards. Pay attention if you haven't noticed this.

I live near quite a few freeways. Within twenty minutes driving distance (and that's at the most) I am either on or passing I-94, I-96, I-696, I-275, I-75, I-375, M-10, and US-23 to name the most major. I know to some it sounds very urban, but it is not unlike many metropolitan areas. The freeways closer to my home have billboards that advertise things like jewelry stores, Cabella's (a major hunter/fisher/camper store), car dealerships etc. but the closer I get to downtown Detroit (and in downtown Detroit proper, sometimes next to a home- would any of you conceive not raising hell if they tried to put a billboard up by your house?) I see a lot of billboards for liquor, the casinos, cigarettes, and the obnoxious debt relief people. Targeting those who have the least to spend it on things they don't need. Disgraceful- but ah, the perks of the "free market" system. However that's a different discussion altogether.
